[ Prompt ] You've been Slain! - PerkPrincess - 07-21-2013

Roleplaying games often have a heavy focus around combat and the acquiring of loot. Most enemies have a loot table that's attached to them within the data, which determines the drop chances of particular items on the table. When a monster is slain, the game makes a roll for the number of items dropped and then for which items on the table do drop.

However, a player character usually does not have such loot tables assigned to them!

But, for a hypothetical moment, what if we did?

Show Content

So let's SEE SOME TABLES KIDS. >:]

Rita's Loot Table
Item Name Drop Chance
5-32 Gil 70%
Dagger 70%
Old Battered Journal 100%
Greataxe 75%
Half-Finished Journal 30%
Family Photo 10%
A Steamy Romance Novel 5%

The Gil, the Dagger and the Greataxe: All three of these items would be the most likely to be found on any adventurer out in the wilds. The Gil would be found in Rita's coinbag necklace, the dagger most likely found either sheathed on her person or inside her bag, and the Greataxe is her weapon of choice. Out of these items, the Gil and Greataxe are of the most value.

The Old Battered Journal: This is absolutely garunteed to be found on Rita's person, no matter what context she may have been killed in. This old ragged thing never leaves her side. It is filled with all of her hand drawn maps, notes, doodles, along with a few regular journal entries on dates of importance. This might not be worth much to a PC, but it may serve as the beginnings of a quest line to turn over to someone of importance to Rita.

Half-Finished Journal: Another journal that could be found in the Roegadyn's belongings. This one is less personal than The Old Battered Journal, but it is filled to the brim with maps of note. There might even be enough to begin a quest to hunt for some treasure that Rita either found, or left behind.

Family Photo: Either a photo, or a small print of a larger painting, showing a family of Roegadyn. They look rather posh, considering their race. The family unit consists of Two older gentlemen, one of whom is standing next to what could presumably his wife. The Husband and wife are standing behind a line of children. Three boys and a singular girl. If one where to look around, an adventurer may be able to pin the faces on the photo to the real person.

A Steamy Romance Novel: How embarrassing! Apparently this woman enjoyed her rather explicit smut? The book contains the misadventures of a Hyur Pirate Captain titled Essendra of the Blue Seas, and her lustful band of misfits. Rita would appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone who you found this on. Thanks.

This is a fun idea. I must say, I had a lot of fun with this.

X'sato's Loot Table

Item Name Drop Chance
Well-worn Spear 90%
Knife 60%
Old Silver Ring 100%
Romance Novel 1%
Silver Earring 20%
Blank Journal 30%

Knife: What adventurer would be caught without a good knife? It's a nice knife too. Maybe you can use it to kill your next victim.

Old Silver Ring: It's rather rude to take someone's last gift from their mother, but what do you care? You killed him.

Silver Earring: Not much to say here. It's just a silver earring he wore from time to time. He thought it looked good.

Well-Worn Spear: A spear that's seen him for most of his life. This spear is the spear he used for the majority of the Holy War. Respect the dead and pawn it off in the next town, please?

Blank Journal: He bought this meaning to write about his adventures, but never got around to it. He'd either forget or have nothing to write. I suppose now you can write about how you killed him in his own journal.

Romance Novel: Not exactly what someone would expect a veteran of the Holy War to carry around. Before checking the contents for plot or anything, remind yourself the he had no friends. Now, forgive him for reading something "dirty" from time to time. Oh, and don't tell anyone. Not like they'd really know who he was anyway.

Edit: Woo, fixed it. When I posted originally, the code duplicated and was just... bad. Sorry about that.

I gave it a try. :3

Seto's Loot Table

Item Name Drop Chance
2-17 Gil 75%
Gladius 75%
Fish Bones 100%
Faded Letter 30%
Crackhorn Hunting Belt 10%
Broken Fishing Pole 80%

Gil and Gladius: Not much money to be found on Seto as he never understood the concept of saving up. Lucky to find much money in his pockets. However teamed with the Gladius an adventurer can make a little bit of money from him.

Fish Bones: Seto loved fish so his pockets are full of the bones from the many of fish he has gnawed on. Not much worth on the markets but Alchemists can use them with other ingrediants to make crystals.

Faded Letter: A letter left to him from his mother. The letter is actually from his brother Hikaru who left it for his mother before he left the tribe. It details how Hikaru felt in his final months before leaving the camp. The writting is faded and letter damaged from constant handling. Of no monetary value but may be part of a quest item.

Crackhorn Hunting Belt: A rare and expensive belt that is said to be made from a legendary bird, Seto was given this belt when he first started his training into being a hunter. The belt has plenty of hooks, puches and pockets to add things to and due to its durability it sells for a pretty price.

Broken Fishing Pole: This fishing pole looks like it's taken quite a beating. Inspecting it, it looks like it has been gnawed, bashed and battered due to the scrapes and marks on the length of the rod. The rod is broken into three different pieces barely hanging together. Looks like Seto didn't have the patience or skill to fish. This will just clog up your inventory space.

Item Name Drop Chance
Soiled Trousers 95%
First Aid Kit 90%
Hi Potion 80%
Sweet Roll 25%
  • Soiled Trousers Congratulations, you killed a defenseless medic. I hope you're proud of yourself, you big bully. If the Geneva Convention existed in Eorzea you'd be drowning in sanctions right now.
  • First Aid Kit Gauze, tape, needles, thread, salve, all the essentials.
  • Hi Potion It's always nice to have one of these.
  • Sweet Roll And he was saving it for a snack. Now he'll never get to eat it.

NO, none of that.

Shame on you.

It should work if you exactly copy and paste the code for the table, and just replace the "EXAMPLE" texts with your own.

Edit: Make sure you're using Mycodeeditor or No Editor when you're posting. You can set this in your options.

RE: [ Prompt ] You've been Slain! - AFriendOfAFriend - 07-21-2013

Item Name Drop Chance
Unseasonable Coat 100%
Worn Carpenter's Tools 80%
Myths and Legends of Hydaelyn 20%
18gil 100%
Eye Patch 100%
Bubble Chocolate 50%

Unseasonable Coat: Old and out of fashion, this coat is likely to roast whomever is wearing it. Monty despised the cold to an unhealthy degree, and now you can, too.

Worn Carpenter's Tools: Aged but well cared for, these tools provide everything needed for the aspiring woodworker. Monty used them to help rebuild after the Calamity; could be worth a quick buck.

Myths and Legends of Hydaelyn: Little more than a book of children's tales, dog-eared and faded. Monty read it on sleepless nights - guess he won't be having any more of them.

Gil: There are many things Monty was not, and a rich man is one of them. Maybe a barkeep will take pity and let you sniff the cheap stuff.

Eye Patch: A bit self explanatory. Pretend you're blind, amuse your friends, annoy a pirate! No safety guarantees.

Bubble Chocolate: A touch melted from being in the stuffy-coat's pocket, but chocolate is chocolate. Monty would have wanted you to have it.

The body lay oddly strewn across the ground, limbs splayed in half-realized panic, spine bent over a small stone it had draped itself over in its fall. The bandit's arrow stuck from its back like a macabre flag pole, a mark of ownership. A mark of death.

Heavy boots crunched through pebbly sand as he made his way over to his target, the grating sound echoing loudly in his ears through the silence of the desert witnessing another life lost. He was entertained briefly by the thought that she had likely spent more time worrying about dehydration or starvation than that twanging sound his arrow had provided in the moments before it had pierced cloth and flesh, punctured a lung, shattered ribs, and left her gasping wetly for several seconds before falling still. He'd given her an efficient death, at least.

Kneeling in the hard-packed, parched earth, the man first retrieved his arrow. It came free with a shifting of bone and the wet pop of flesh, and he spent a moment wiping it free of pink lung bits and blood before returning it to its brothers and sisters in the quiver on his back. Next came inspection time, and as he looked over the body, taking in the greyed hair and tail, the subtle signs of age in her slack features, the simple but clean and well-made robes. Not rich, but definitely comfortable in life, which bade well for what he may find.

Knobby hands wrapped in weathered leather took hold of one shoulder and rolled her over, off he rock, and then with the calm, detached manner of a businessman, began to pat her down, searching for pockets or hidden pouches. He briefly considered taking the glasses sitting crookedly on her now-silent face, but the fall had cracked the lenses and bent the wire frames. Their value was mostly slag metal now, and the man had no interest in that.

His hands came away with five gil pieces and a piece of paper folded into a small square. The gil he pocketed quickly, but the paper he kept in his hand for a time, staring down at it, considering. He generally made it a policy not to go out of his way to uncover any personal details about his targets, but perhaps it was the long hours he'd had to wait before this aging miqo'te woman had crossed his sights, or perhaps the way she vaguely reminded him of his own mother (a mean, nasty woman who he'd killed as soon as he had the know-how to get away with it). Whatever it was, the frayed edges of the paper seemed to taunt him, and against his better judgment, he carefully unfolded it, flattening the creases against his thigh before holding it up to the light.

It was a note, a letter, and he nearly tossed it away upon realizing that little detail. He didn't need to know what lovers this woman had had, or what problems, or affections, or anything about her personal life. But again, against his better judgment, he squinted through the overly bright Thanalan sun. The lettering was faded and smudged, hinting at the note's age, but still readable.

Quote:Mother,

No more nagging. No more prodding. No more pretending. I'm leaving and you drove me to it.

If only you'd tried to understand!

The note wasn't signed, but he didn't need to know its author to understand the intent behind it - nor to understand why this woman, walking north through Thanalan all alone, had kept it.

The bandit kept the letter from that day, folded it back up and tucked it safely inside one of his pockets in an absent-minded gesture. Perhaps he felt like he needed to take something more than just a few gil to make this kill worthwhile. Of course he told himself it definitely wasn't because he felt any kind of obligation to the swiftly stiffening body lying in the sands. It would fester and rot and feed the nearby vultures, and he would go on with his life just as he always had. Some day in the future, he may even kill another in this very same spot.

When he did, he may be reminded of the letter, may dig it out from the depths of a pocket he'd nearly forgotten about, may unfold its battered creases, and may read its brief message a second time. It's possible that the next time he hunted, he held off letting lose his already notched arrow, hesitated when he saw grey hair, a weary hunch of shoulders, a face drawn with lines of care and age. And guilt.

***

((Disclaimer: None of the above is canon. Antimony did not die horribly at the hands of some wandering looter! That would be one of the shortest-lived characters of mine ever. The note may not even be real, who knows? Only me, but I'm not telling! x3 ))

Urgh. I am so bad at things. -_- Can't figure out the wiki thing, and apparently can't figure out how to copy and paste properly!

Scarlet's Loot Table

Item NameDrop Chance
10 - 20 Gil75%
A Broken Chain100%
Crumpled Paper20%
Half-Eaten Lunch10%
Battle Axe80%

10 - 20 Gil: Ever since her gil pouch was stolen at a hot spring, she doesn't carry much loot with her anymore. Each piece was honestly earned and now you've gone and sullied it with murder. If you're going to use dead man's gil, she'd prefer you used it on Costa ale.

A Broken Chain: A gift from Vash Ashford after she made him a new one. It was tied around her belt. Could you give it back to him, please?

Crumpled Paper: A lot of crumpled paper with poor handwriting on it, some maps of Twelveswood, Thanalan, and La Noscea, and a few delivery orders. What you can read off the paper is just the Eorzean alphabet repeated. How boring!

Half-Eaten Lunch: It will never be seafood and always homemade. Knock yourself out.

Battle Axe: A self forged axe from back home, a memento of sorts that holds a special reminder of where she's from. On one side of the hilt it has her full name engraved into it, and on the other a home clan saying in her native tongue. If you failed to sneak up on her, it probably has a bit of your blood still on the blade.

(EDIT: Yes quick edit works as well! Seeing as my initial post just said table x4)

How to Tell Her How You Feel - A self help book: Sounds like someone didn't know how to talk to a girl...
