Greetings! - Physicker Karliene - 08-14-2013

After spending several years on WoW and other MMOs, a couple of friends (a coincidence, I had no idea!) and I have decided to pick up FFXIV. Considering that I'm a medium level competitive gamer and the PVP season 13 on WoW is coming to a close only in...one month, I have little to do until then but grind for the Rival title on my battlegroup and Vanquisher on ATR. That being said, this is where my new niche shall be whilst I'm not PVPing on WoW or doing other things there I like to put off doing.

I look forward to playing the game (and roleplaying, of course!) with all of you. Likely is it that I'll be rolling over on Balmung, where my other friends have decided to make their nice.

Of course! What goes around comes around.

That being said, I still don't know what class to play. I'm typically rather partial to rogue-playstyle classes so I might go for a monk. I play competitive support, though, so I might go for white mage. Maybe summoner. Hnngg. Too many choices!

Seeing as you ask about questions; is it possible/viable to level up solely through non-combat aspects of the game (DoL and DoH)?

The thing with final fantasy is that level is saved per job/class.

For example:

Lets say I level up an Archer to 30, and I decide hey I want to try out miner for gathering, my level as a miner would start at 1.

You can change between your classes simply by equipping a different weapon. The classes are separated by weapons in Final Fantasy, so one character (For me, Felix Sideris), will be able to be every class in the game whenever I want, all I have to do is equip a different weapon to change to a different class.

It's an amazing mechanic FF did because it makes it so people don't have to constantly re-roll alts. I will have -one- character on my character screen, and he can be any class I want him to be.

So can you level up a DoL/DoH by themselves? Absolutely, in fact, they are pretty fun to level if you like crafting or gathering. Although they are non-combat and wouldn't be able to perform in PvP.

I played a rogue in WoW on Moon Guard.. And mained a rogue for like seven years, so I know how you feel.

I'm not sure if monk is like rogue per-say, as from what I gather they have a form of stances. Some of the abilities you use chain together and put you into a different martial art stance, where you can then use an ability specific to that stance.

Lancer/dragoon has a lot of positional strikes (from the side, from the back, etc) so you are always moving around and such.

Really, there isn't a class out that feels like a "rogue" to me. Best wait for thief/ninja/assassin or whatever 'stealth-like' class they decide to release in the future.

Forgot to mention this:

DoW, the combat classes have to level up via combat, so there is no out of combat way for them to level up.

Kinda obvious, but I thought i'd mention it just in case.

Welcome aboard!

More WoW transfers, heh. That game will always have a special place in my heart, but I'm too flippin' excited for FFXIV to play anything right now. I just stare at the forums and comb through my characters' biographies and stuff.

Anyway! I hope you enjoy your time here on the RPC and I'll catch ya on Balmung! Thumbsup

Same realm!

And yeah, I understand what you mean by the different class system; it's (loosely) similar to The Secret World's where you have one big wheel and can just go through the whole thing and do what you feel like doing. The rogue feel is more of a...fast-paced class no matter what MMORPG you happen to play. I do happen to main an RBG mistweaver on WoW, currently and I've previously played a warrior so I understand where you're going with the stances.

Honestly, I'm not sure how much PvP I'll be involved in on FFXIV, probably not much considering I'm already going to be pushing 2.1 in RBGs with my guild group, next season. I might just go fully non-combat; it's what I did on...*shifty eyes* RuneScape; just stay LVL3 and have some maxed stats or have some weird level.

We'll see how it goes, of course! Still, it's always nice to have the information readily available. I'll probably have Aaya as a fully non-combat character and have a secondary one.

Ahh, always. I'm actually getting the Horde symbol tattooed in uh. Three hours and a half! I'm a bit of a hardcore Horde fan.

I even support Hellscream. 100%. Though I do hope either Nazgrel, Saurfang or Eitrigg is the next Warchief!
