FFXIV ARR pre-order confusion - Crow Bookkeep - 08-16-2013
I just pre-ordered FFXIV: ARR for PC, digital download. I got an email and I got the pre-order / early access code but I didn't get one for the actual game itself to put in the square enix store to claim I own FFXIV: ARR.
Is it that the pre-order code and the serial number on the game are the same thing? Meaning once I input this code whenever that option becomes available for early access it will also show on my square enix account that I own FFXIV: ARR? Because currently I can't put this code in as an official game in my profile to show I own FFXIV: ARR it just gives an error.
So I am quite confused, if someone could clear this up it would be a big help.

On August 20th the pre-order registration will begin. This is when you input your pre-order code in the email that SE supposedly sends you.
The issue I have with the pre-order code is the format. I ordered from Amazon and I have seen the Pre-Order registration page. The formats do not appear to match.
For example:

On the Pre-Order Registration Page (which is available but not currently active yet). There are 5 4 character blocks for your code (20 characters total)
XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
The code which I received from Amazon is formated as follows.
XXXXXXX-XXX-XXXXXX-XXX for a total of 18 characters.
I sent an email to both Amazon and SE to make sure that these promotional code formats are legit and have been tested. Otherwise if they are incompatible both retailer and SE are going to have a massive @#@# fest if people cannot obtain early access for which they paid for. The verbiage has been very ambiguous and not really fluid describing the process.
So far Amazon has been quick to respond. They have my SE ticket # as well as the email I sent to SE. SE however has yet to respond. They have 3.25 days to go to double check.

the xxxxxx-xxx-xxxxxx-xxx is the same format that games are registered on the Square-Enix site. This is another reason I'm confused, when I try to register the code I got on the site it sais error, I'm assuming because the game isin't officially out yet but it sais this is also the pre-order code so it makes it even more confusing lol, whatever I'll just hope for the best, hope yours gets resolved also

Aug 20th it should work. Now that you mention your code format maybe they will have a separate page for each retailer in terms for pre-order redemption, it would make sense in order to gather statistics.

this is because the Japanese preorder codes are 20 characters
the North American code is 18th characters... If you go to the beta registration site provided by that link it is actually the Japanese one converted to English
It threw off a lot of people early on until people realized it was just Square Enix doing translation

Anyone here know how I could inform my retailer about the Pre-Order bonuses like early access? Â I ordered FFXIV:ARR Collectors Edition over month ago, and about week ago they sent me email saying they aren't sure they can give the pre-order bonus, and if I still want the game...Ofc I replied "Yes I still want it" because it's freaking hard to find physical CE in Finland, and now they're all soldout, lol, and I still want the freaking artbook and such!
I'm not actually gonna die if I don't get the early access (I haven't had time to play beta much either, busy busy life) but I want the mog hat and cait sith doll ^^;

You could try showing them http://arrstatus.com/ where it shows when early access is and say that part of pre-ordering FFXIV: ARR is gaining early access.
http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/product/ Shows the bonuses to pre-ordering where it clearly states "Early Access To Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn." And it sais "from participating retailer" so if they are part of the participating retailers (you didn't mention who you bought it from I don't think), they have to give it to you.

The preorder bonuses were mentioned on their page when I ordered. But month later when they sent me the email (I didn't notice it right away since it had go into my trash folder) they said they weren't sure anymore if they can actually give the preorder bonus, and gave me chance to cancel my order. And the game isn't listed on their page at all anymore. (I know I'll get it though and it's not a scam, it's same store I got my v.1.0)
But like I said I am merely concerned if I get silly vanity in-game items
 I am not gonna die or anything if I don't get them. I'm just glad I found place to order it from before they were ALL sold-out everywhere. I can't really cancel it and order from another store that knows how to give the pre-order bonus...because the physical Collectors Edition is pretty much impossible to get anymore!
