[Balmung] Grindstone Combat Tutoring - Sigyn Shieldbreaker - 10-20-2013

So, recently we may have had some interest in one of the secondary purposes of the Grindstone (aside from the fighting and the tournament-ing) which is our mentorship 'program' of sorts.

We have a lot of members and while I'm familiar with a fair chunk of our fighters, I'm uncertain who might have the time and interest ICly and OOCly to actually apprentice or tutor another PC in game in whatever art they specialize in.

So if you are in the Grindstone and you have a character with one or two mastered arts they'd like to pass on, or you have a character who might like to teach through the Grindstone OR you have a character seeking a teacher in a physical art for character development, please post:

The character's name
The field of interest (Lancer/Pugilist/Sword+Shield, etc.)
Whether or not they're looking for an apprentice OR
What level of skill they would like to attain. (Novice, intermediate, advanced.)

I hope we can keep it to one teacher at a time but really, this is just to help me organize whom I might approach ICly to do work for whom.

While our Free Company should list this amongst their jobs if they are capable, this is also for our Linkshell members as it is a coalition and building stronger bonds is what we love to do. <3

RE: [Balmung] Grindstone Combat Tutoring - Sylastair - 10-21-2013

If he were approached by someone he got a good vibe from, Flynt would likely take the time to train someone in the ways of the lance. As someone trained in the ways of the Dragoon as well, he could possibly train someone in their unique style of combat, though this would take much more cajoling and trust for him to do so.

Name: Flynt Knoltros
Area of Expertise: Lance/Dragoon Combatives
Mentoring Availability: Looking for an apprentice though he doesn't know it Tongue
Level of Knowledge: Can instruct Advanced techniques of both the Lance and Dragoon combative forms

Very very good, thank you. Fen, I think I already have two someones lined up for you and I may have a Lancer apprentice soon.

Shweet. I ("I" being the cable company) still need to get my ruddy Internet back, but once that's returned, so shall I!

Stupid cable company...

It is taking them forever. Just sayin'. o.o; We live in the middle of nowhere and our internet doesn't take near as long to be fixed.

This is interesting as Denn has been recruiting people to train and she is up to four students currently. She secretly wants to start her own army school to represent her unique style of fighting that includes drinking heavily and throwing yourself at your opponent until they fall down Big Grin! I have actually thought about having her start to explore the art of drunken boxing if she ever gets her head out of her ass long enough to try to take a more disciplined approach to fighting.

She'll pretty much take anyone as a pupil as her current students consist of a healer, a tailor, and a guard. Groveling may be required though Laugh

While she prefers hand-to-hand combat, she does have a moderate level of experience with a sword and axe and is a novice with a bow (having really only used them for hunting).

Name: Dennthota Ahtahrmwyn
Area of Expertise: Close combat
Mentoring Availability: Actively Recruiting
Level of Knowledge: This is in the eye of the beholder. Her fighting style seems erratic, but there is some tactics to the mayhem.

Edit: Speaking of this. Sometime in the future I think it would be interesting for the mentors to get together and have their students fight it out. School vs school :3.

Hahahaha, after posting that I literally started watching Jackie's older movies from like the late 80's and early 90's. He was so young!

While our Free Company should list this amongst their jobs if they are capable, this is also for our Linkshell members as it is a coalition and building stronger bonds is what we love to do. <3

You know I wonder...do you think it'd be possible to hire some of your members as Garden Instructors?

I think it's entirely possible. Actually, I've been thinking about something similar which I'll send a PM about directly.

Looking for an apprentice!  Or at least always open to that.
Also looking to master Close Combat as well.  She is currently intermediate at it.

We have a lot of desire for Pugilist trainers. I'm going to have to make sure to find more definite individuals willing to teach ICly.
