Greetings!
As a long time RPer, from Everquest to City of Heroes, to World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2, I was very excited to pick up Final Fantasy XIV as it built up a head of steam in the late summer. However, I (like many people) found myself frustrated by the launch, and the game ended up on my back burner. I'm back now, and excited to play!
I'm excited to see what the game has to offer, and the character that I'll be rolling with is a young ship-builder named Jack Barton. Like me, he has very little knowledge of the world beyond Limsa Lominsa, so I'm very eager to find Linkshells and Free Companies that will take me along with them on all sorts of adventures.Â
I always aim to have a healthy mix of PvE and RP in my gaming, since I get a little bored if I focus on either for too long. I'm sure there's a free company out there for me!
As far as my personal life, I work in professional sports so I find myself a bit of a closet nerd. Thankfully, my social life is full of nerdy deliciousness!Â

Heya Jack! I have always liked that name for some reason. Well if you should give the old linkshell tab a bit of a perusing to see what would fit in with your character. The FC I am in does a lot of endgame stuff and are allied with another FC so there is usually always someone on to help with things and to RP if you want to give them a ganderÂ

Good to hear you're able to fit in the nerd when and where you can, it can be interesting to try and sneak it in on the sides. Hopefully FFXIV will be a new good source of it!

That sizable post is a handbook of roleplay styles, thoughts, ideas and much more put together by Eva, The index is spoiler tagged at the top, and glancing at it you should get an idea of what areas you might like to read, even if you already know most of it I find it a handy way to compare my own thoughts to something else.
Because I like to balance PVE and RP as well i'm familiar with your desire to have the proverbial cake and devour it, so here are a few groups that might help you strike up a balance between them.

"Intermission" is an OOC linkshell dedicated to getting RPers together to talk, maybe find out where some people are, if they're open to having some one swing by, or just strike up conversation in general and get to know the people you might meet out in the wide world.

"Balmungs Finest" is a OOC Linkshell all about that delicious PVE group content, Dungeons, Primals, Raids and the like. Most people will post what they're missing from a group in the linkshell and try to fill up before resorting to the Duty Finder.
As far as FCs go, there aren't many I can mention off hand that might fit, its a fairly large investment (at least for myself). So perhaps taking a look at the linkshell hall and getting in contact with one or two people to talk about what they bring to the table and what exactly you are looking for might be the best way to go about it...

"Harbingers of Dawn" might fit how ever, i've had the chance to meet maybe a half dozen of them and its always went well.

And you're definitely allowed to think of Jack Burton, I was watching the movie when I made the character. They're nothing alike except for being tall and looking good in tank tops.
