Not so new, but new!? : ) - Sona Beret - 12-14-2013

Hello,

I am not new to FFXIV or RPing, but I had to take a long break due to my University exams coming up. Soooo.... I'm looking to see if there is a RP community on the Phoenix server... I tried looking around but I can't find one. My fiancee, brother, and myself all love doing it, but we're beginning to think we picked the wrong server... : )

Greetings and welcome to the RPC Sona!

Good to hear you've got a group of people to roll around with! While I wouldn't presume to say there is no RP on Phoenix, Balmung and Gilgamesh are the "Hot spots" as it were. I'd suggest rolling alts on either (or both maybe.) and taking a look around here on the site to see what one you might want to reroll on, or transfer to.

But anyways! onto the usual blurb of information. You've likely ran into most of this if you've been poking around, but who knows, maybe you'll share this with the brother or the SO.

That ^ is a welcome post to the RPC that outlines a lot of the resources that are here for you as well as give you a bit of information on the RPC itself.

If you have experiance in RP the following link will likely cover a lot of what you already know, but there is a great deal of information the pertains to FFXIV in particular as well as Eva simply doing a fantastic job of outlining a lot of concepts, providing examples and viewpoints.

While a bit lengthy for a casual read, I still highly recommend it if you have some down time from studying.

But onto the communities! lets say, hypothetically you use a server transfer service, or you reroll, or maybe just have a few alts. There are a couple of key communities between Gilgamesh and Balmung that I think help people get to know whos out there.

"Intermission" on Balmung is and Out of Character hub for roleplayers, serving to get people in touch, keep communication open, and help you get to know the people behind the characters.

"Coalition" on Gilgamesh is much like Intermission in serving to get people from across the server together in an OOC context.

But maybe you just want to run some dungeons and plug away at the story..

"Balmungs Finest" is a great example of one of a few PVE linkshells that exist to help coordinate dungeon runs. I think that keeping the parties amoung people of the server and only resorting to duty finder when necessary both helps to reduce the queue time for poor lonely DPS, as well as strengthen the ties between the players themselves. That and people are less likely to drop group after a single stumble!

I hope this helps give you a bit of information about whats out there, and though theres not much evidence I have of roleplay on Phoenix maybe a lurker or two will come along and prove me wrong.

As always feel free to ask any questions you might have, raise a concern or two, go party it up on the forums. I'll be in Eorzea! Cactuar

Thank you! I think I will probably make some alts and poke around. I read over that info and will definitely be passing it along.

I (and many others) will be on Balmung fairly late tonight if you have any questions and prefer to ask in game, either way, good luck!

Oh and I would be remiss if I didn't mention
http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/calendar.php?action=event&eid=55
This happening on Saturday evening, while perhaps not the best way to "ease in" it should provide a good show to see a crowd out and about if that interests you and the others.

cheets!

Welcome to the RPC! If you end up sticking with Balmung and are an EU/NA daytime player, I just thought I'd mention that Europa is an OOC LFRP linkshell, The Travellers Guild is an RP FC and Eorzean Union is an endgame PVE FC, all playing at EU peak times (5 pm GMT/12 pm EST onwards). Hope you enjoy your stay! ^^

RE: Not so new, but new!? : ) - Tla - 12-14-2013

Welcome!
I played on Phoenix for a bit, made an alt there because a friend and his guild had established there. I ended up transferring that alt as well to Balmung. Despite my short experience there, my friend himself told me it was seemingly impossible to find RP on that server, and he ended up quitting the game. And that was still very close to launch, when the population was big and active. So if you want to play on Phoenix regardless, I make you the best wishes, who knows maybe you can build a community there yourself! Otherway you should know that if you move you'll be able to find a good number of europeans also on Balmung *is one* ^^
