Player Housing - CalebAgron - 02-07-2014
Has anyone heard any recent news regarding personal player housing? Do we know if it's going to mirror company in -any- way? Meaning will there be S/M/L plots? Will the plot layout be identical? Around what pricing will each house be? etc.

He stated in one of his live letters that it would be a (Estimate)year after the release of Free Company housing.

Squeenix server infrastructure is handled and powered by hamsters, so I bet that estimate is how long until they get enough money to upgrade to dual-core powered servers! Dual core as in 2 hamsters instead of one.

In all seriousness though, FFXIV has been a huuuuge success for them and they are actually in the green this quarter because of it

Last I heard when it came to Personal Housing they said it would be released six months after Free Company Housing and that it would be significantly cheaper than that of Free Company Housing. From what I understand there will be S/M/L sizes but they do not have a design for it or are still in the planning stages.
Personal Housing also depended on the success of Free Company Housing and how many were bought to see if it would be a good idea to implement into the game. Seeing how well Free Company Housing is going over they will be implementing it.

I bet it will be called Grand Company housing, and will be instanced apartments accessible from the left set of doors in every Grand Company headquarters. It doesn't have have a No Entry sign on it...just a guess, mind.

Yep, this is exactly what I heard. They will basically be rooms that are instanced and tied to the Free (or Grand, I can't remember) Company housing from what I recall.

It will be hilarious (and by that I mean "sad") if they decide if player housing is worth it based on the success of FC housing. Right now, FC housing is so expensive that only a handful of companies had the funds for it. So they'll either have to admit that the way they released FC housing was completely stupid or else have to release something their numbers tell is not succesful.
I'm betting they'll go for "OH! Players are NOT interested in housing, so we won't be releasing it ATM. Instead, have this Primal Battles: For Realz this Time."

I've been waiting almost a decade for a modern MMO to invest in a proper system for personal player housing. It's ridiculous, since it's one of the features in an MMO that would encourage a lot of investment if handled well and implemented in an in-depth manner.
I just don't get it. Plenty of older MMO's with much less resources at their disposal managed to implement it in a reasonable manner and yet most modern MMO's either avoid it altogether or only bother appeasing the very small minority of players who want guild housing.
Honestly? I don't care if my guild has a house or not. It really doesn't do anything for me. If my close friends and myself have a house that we can personally customise to our tastes then I would literally jump up to celebrate.

I think that would be enough to make me quit the game since personal housing is perhaps the single most important thing to me and why I've been grinding stuff for gil.
If it isn't similar to how they have FC housing set up (in that there is a "community" of house lots that you can purchase in a instanced area) then I'll probably ditch the game.

It really annoys me the fact that when FC members or people have the set of mind saying:
"It's ok. We don't need a house. We'll just occupy some area and Roleplay over there."Â
That's just lazy and you have no absolute contribution to the FC. I've had to deal with them and that is not an optimistic view to the community and FC itself.Â
Also, having personal house MAY be good. But if people start buying personal house when FC houses aren't filled up - then it'll just ruin the community because people will just prefer to party inside personal mansion over FC mansion since it will -possibly- be cheap.
If 2.1's first pricing for FC house was ($320 million for largest) , then player's largest housing should be ($640 million for first pricing) so that players can't buy it and rely on Free Company to join, enjoy, and appreciate their FC house.

That's kind of an unreasonably strong negative judgment towards people who may not see the need for an FC house. >_>
Personally, I find Squee's "housing" effort to be so pathetically limited anyway that I don't blame anyone who doesn't wanna partake. I've largely written it off myself as something not worth the gil.
