Looking for Trouble [Open] - Whittledown - 06-26-2014

Roen and Gharen were alive. They were somewhere safe. Hornet felt the tension bleed out of her and was able to sleep fitfully for the first time in a week. There was unfinished business to attend to, there always was in ugly situations like this. Natalie McBeef. Punching her had been satifying, and if the girl had had any sense she would have scrambled away with her traitorous tail between her legs. But no, she was as stupid as Hornet had expected. A threat was made by McBeef and Hornet could not have been more pleased about it.

Hornet woke early the next morning and made ready quickly. Her black armor, sturdy but light and flexible enough for lance work, was cleaned meticulously before she put it on. She admired the figure she cut in it. She was tall, powerful, and the black armor carried a certain amount of menace with it. It was perfect. She secured her lance to her back and made the trip from her small camp near Summerford Farms into Limsa Lominsa.

A ferry ride to Vesper Bay and a short chocobo ride later Hornet was walking through the Gates of Thal into the merchants district. She moved slowly and casually through the market stalls. As she moved she kept her eyes and ears tuned to any discussion that might lead her to McBeef or Kage, a man she took to be McBeef's confederate in all this. He seemed to be operating by her request the previous day, and would like try to intervene if blood was to be spilled.

Turning the corner she walked up the short stairs before moving down Pearl Lane. Her blood was up. She was craving a fight. She'd made a promise to McBeef as the coward had fled. Expect me.

Natalie stares at the small puddle of spilled beer on the countertop from a sideways angle, her cheek resting on the cool wood of the bar. With what seems like herculean effort she raises a hand, plopping a finger into the stale liquid and drawing it lazily around in front of her face. She'd been there all night, as the raucous activity of night faded into morning, the only activity now is the quiet noise of cleaning, and the movements of her finger.

She'd sent Kage away, using the opportunity to sneak to the Quicksand. Her pearl had been alive all night with his pleas, before she finally placed it into a pocket, instead focusing her efforts on Momodi's many wares. More than once the staff had suggested she left, worried that she would turn to violence, but Natalie simply drank. Her only focus on numbing what she felt.

Her sister was gone.

"Oy..." She croaks dryly, pushing an empty glass towards the bartender, "I'm empty here."

RE: Looking for Trouble [Open] - Kage - 06-26-2014

Kage had finally found her. After his fruitless efforts of finding Jameson Taeros he had returned to the house to find her gone. His pleas had gone unanswered and it only made his heart hurt worse. The loss of Roen. The loss of almost everyone he knew. Natalie was the only one left. The one he was beginning to think he could not live without. He only had her left.

He could only watch her as she asked for more drink. He couldn't bear to see her like this but he didn't want to push. They were both grieving for what they had lost. He would just stay beside her to keep her safe.

Who knew when Melkire would come.

Hornet walked her path through Pearl Lane at a leisurely pace. She wanted people to notice her. She knew she had a distinctive look with her dark skin, blonde hair, and yellow stripe across her eyes. If there were spies here, they would recognize her. She imagined the traitor Mc Beef getting a whisper in her ear that Hornet was in Ul'dah and she grinned at the thought of the woman summoning lackeys to defend her.

She was happily imagining a scenario in which she had to fight off six corrupt Blass Blades when she walked into the Quicksand. Hornet didn't notice Kage and thinking Natalie was the only patron there and, as is Hornet's custom, she moved to sit next to the woman to make small talk. She sat down next to Natalie and ordered an orange juice and a water before looking at Natalie.

Immediately her brow furrowed and she leaned in, dropping her head to try and get a good look and confirm her suspicions. Right here? And slobbering drunk?

"Well, this is disappointing." She said with a sigh as she straightened up.

Natalie blinks her bloodshot eyes as something moves in front of her field of vision. She sits up slowly as she waits for her drink, casting her eyes around the room. "Ha... crowded, isn't it?" she laughs uproariously, as if thinking it the height of wit. She smiles as the bartender pushes her another ale with worried eyes, and cooing softly she embraces the tankard, and begins drinking it in long slow movements.

"S-what are you here for..." she says languidly, eyeing the larger woman. "Little...." she begins snickering to herself, "little early for drinking..." she begins guffawing and slapping her knee, before once again leaning against the countertop.

RE: Looking for Trouble [Open] - Kage - 06-26-2014

Kage unfolded his arms, eyeing the Roegadyn who walked in and sat beside Natalie. He knew who she was now. The one who had asked about Grimsong. Hornet? The one who was there when he had truly lost his sister in arms.

He narrowed his eyes, watching their interaction. He slowly moved forward, almost crawling. He didn't want to stumble or hit something with his tail. Stupid tail. If there was to be blood shed, he didn't want it to be Natalie's. It was his or no one's. He'd much prefer no one's.

((Kage won't move unless violence erupts now so feel free to just run over my posts now~))

Hornet tilted her head a bit as she watched Natalie. She wasn't sure if Nat had even recognized her. If she hadn't, this would be a unique opportunity. She smiled at Momodi as her orange juice and glass of water arrived. She sipped the juice in silence for a moment before smiling at Nat and presenting a warm, solicitous tone.

"A bit, but if you've been drinking all night that doesn't count." She laughs softly. "May I ask what's got you so deeply in your cups?"

RE: Looking for Trouble [Open] - McBeefâ„¢ - 06-26-2014

Natalie peers up curiously at the woman, as she rotates her tankard on the bartop.

"Life."

She laughs more at this, before taking another drink and studying a very interesting piece of wood. "Maybe the Garleans are right," she says with sudden seriousness, "Perhaps the twelve are nothing but a blight upon us."

She finishes her drink and slams it onto the countertop. "They've certainly never listened to my prayers."

RE: Looking for Trouble [Open] - Whittledown - 06-26-2014

"Life." She repeats as she sits back in her chair, leaning away from Natalie a bit as she sips her juice.

"Hmm... I'm not sure the Gods are to blame. I mean, if they're ignoring us, then everything we do is just us being terrible." She shrugs. "I am curious though, if the Gods were here right now, what would you say to them?"

RE: Looking for Trouble [Open] - McBeefâ„¢ - 06-26-2014

"Another" Natalie shouts, pushing her tankard too violently, and it tumbles over the edge, skittering across the floor.

"Wha..?" she looks at it with confusion before turning to Hornet, "I'd tell them... to get fucked."

She laughs once slightly as her eyes begin to close, "For..."

"Not Fair."

Her breathing becomes quiet as she lies on the counter, "None of it..." she mutters as she drifts off.

RE: Looking for Trouble [Open] - Aya - 06-26-2014

It would be difficult for Kage's taut alertness to go unnoticed.  Numerous pairs of eyes watched the object of his attention with caution, a few, perhaps, sharing his concern.

Aya slammed the water glass down with considerable force next to Kage.  A single slice of sun lemon floated serenely in the chilled water, standing in contrast to the torrid, murky, tension of the Quick Sand: a dancing brightness afloat in cool clarity.

RE: Looking for Trouble [Open] - Whittledown - 06-26-2014

Hornet lifted a brow as Natalie dropped her head to the counter. Asleep or passed out, didn't make much difference to her. She ran through a number of scenarios in her head. Could get Natalie a room and then just kill her while she was passed out. It would be easy. Strip her, run a bath, drown her and let it look like an accident of a drunk woman passing out in a bath. She frowned and glanced around at the slamming of the water.

Spotting Aya made her hesitate. Hornet had sympathy for people in Aya's position and loathed the thought of making trouble for Momodi or Aya. Sighing she pushes back her stool and stands up, looking down at Natalie from her considerable height. She pulled a small pouch of gil from her belt and dropped it on the counter, an amount she was sure would cover any bill Natalie had incurred.

She stepped away from the bar and nodded to Aya and for the first time noticed Kage. She gave him a nod as well as she slowly started to walk around the central seating area aiming for the exit.

If Kage bothered to look back, he'd only see Aya looking toward the two he had himself been watching.  She blinked in confusion, watching Hornet as she raised herself up and started to walk away.  Only then did she notice that Natalie had passed out on the bar's counter.

"What the..." she said quietly, to herself.

RE: Looking for Trouble [Open] - Kage - 06-26-2014

Kage blinked and nearly jumped in the air at the slamming water before turning his confused gaze to Aya. He watched her with wide eyes before watching Hornet walk away. He bowed his head slightly in the Roegadyn's direction before murmuring apologies to Aya.

Walking forward, Kage slipped out a pouch of his own before handling the one Hornet dropped. He tossed it once or twice in his palm, making a quick guess and estimation of how much Hornet had left inside. Leaving his own heavier pouch on the counter, he brought back Hornet's pouch to Aya, whispering with a downturned gaze, "If you see her again, please return this to her. I only know of her as Hornet."

With a pained expression, Kage lifted one of Natalie's arm's gently over and around his shoulders. He turned his face, a small tear dropping down as he rubbed a thumb gently over one of his cheeks. "None of it is fair Nat... None of it, especially here in Ul'dah." With an exhale he slowly carried Natalie away, outside of Quicksand towards home with his head bowed.

Natalie opens her eyes groggily as her whole world seems to sway. She see's the side of Kage's face... despite his change, he still looks the same. As he carries her through the city, she wishes for a moment it could last forever. That the cruel hand of fate would stop...

Would...

Stop...

Sturrrppp...

Urppp....

Natalie noisily vomits onto Kage, before passing out once more.
