It was cold. Quite cold. The entire ground was covered in a blanket of snow. The sky however, was surprisingly clear. The sun was shining. Hardly a cloud in sight it seems. Seems unusual in a place like Coerthas. The one place Chiyo dreaded more than anything. Even more than Shroud. At least the Shroud wasn't this cold and depression. Here however was nothing but snow, xenophobic locals, and dragons that want to kill you.
A perfect place for punishment. He rown personal hell. Someone in self-imposed exile. She had caused trouble for her friends at the Bastion time and time again. The miqo'te was beginning to wonder if she'd still be welcomed at this point. For all she knew, they could be relieved that she's gone. Maybe she won't come back. But all her stuff are still there though. And she just moved in too. She would had to come back at some point anyway. Regardless, this would at least give them a break from each other.
It's been several, uneventful hours. Chiyo wandered around the snowy lands, training in places warriors may of fallen previously. She was told by her friend, Ninifae that wandering monks travel the lands to absorb the aether that was scattered from those who had falling, empowering the soul. Chiyo debated if that was actually true or how it even work, but she thought it would be worth a try.
She decided to take a quick visit in to the “Behemoth's Den,†which is actually just a high cliff among a large land of snow, said to where the infamous Behemoth's sometimes visit. It appeared to be baron with the exception of two hyur children playing in the snow, a boy and a girl it seems. Chiyo appeared the two kids. “Watch'cta doin' here,†she asked.
“Look, a miqo'te!†said the girl.
“Is it true you people have nine lives?†asked the boy.
Chiyo chuckled. “I wish.†Her expression quickly became serious. “Now what in seven hells are you doin' here? This place ain't a place for no children.â€
“We were hoping to find a behemoth,â€said the boy. “Dawn here said we wouldn't find one.â€
The miqo'te sighed and shook her head.“And you don't want to. Now c'mon, we're getting outta here.â€
Chiyo reached out to hold the boy's hand, but he quickly stepped back. “Tch. I'm not letting to no cat.â€
“You little brat, let's go!†Chiyo immediately grab the boy's arm without hesitation. The boy struggle, but apparently, “cats†have good grip. “Let me go,†he pleaded.
“I think we should let to her,Dusk.â€
Just then, a hooded Au Ra in adarklight crow suddenly hugged the miqo'te tightly, causing her grip to loosing and the boy, Dusk, breaking free. “Chiyo!†said Sinette, seeming excited.
“Gah. Hey Sin. Nice to see ya too.â€
Dusk grinned. “Well if it isn't thecowardly dragon lady. Looks like you finally caught up with us.â€
“Sin, who are these brats?†Chiyoasked.
“Well... I was actually babysit these two when...†Sin sighed. “...they ran off.†She walked up to the children and drew her staff. “...Listen up! You two better come with me or I'll...â€
“You'll what,†said Dusk,tauntingly. “you'll zap me with one of your 'thunder' spells?â€
Chiyo smirked. “Oh, she'll do it alright. And it's going to hurt. She'd done it to me once before.â€
Suddenly, a 'roar' was heard. It seemed close. “Dusk, I really think we should go now,†said Dawn, seeming quite scared.
“Not until I see a behemoth.â€
“Damn kid,†growled Chiyo. “I said let's-â€
A fairly large, purple, bull-like beast suddenly landed before them as Chiyo talked. It was just as they feared: a behemoth. It didn't look to be fully grown, about the size of a small house. Probably at its teens, but it was still fearsome and dangerous, and it looked like it was getting ready to pounce.
Chiyo drew out her pugilist arms while Sinette stood in front of the kids, defending them. “You two have to hide!†yelled Sin. The children finally did as they were told and ran to take cover by a rock, while the young behemoth slowly approached the miqo'te and Au ra, the two slowly tread backwards from the beast, before it eventually pounce at them. They leaped from separate directions.
The behemoth looked to its right at Chiyo, growling. It seemed to be interested in her first. The beast then slammed its right, front foot at the miqo'te, but Chiyo dodged and retaliated with a side kick on the leg. The beast grunted and staggered a bit, but it only made it angered. It then swiftly swagged it's left claw at her. Chiyo barely dodged that one, but it torn of her large, warm jacket. Underneath was her usual picaroon set.
Meanwhile, Sinette was preparing a spell. Of course, it took her some time before firing a large bolt of lightning. A thundarga (III). As it directly hit the beast, it became paralyzed for a brief moment, giving Chiyo the opportunity to throw a few, hard punching in the face. Her strikes was able to bruise and bleed the beast, even knocking one of its teeth out. She ran out of it's reach again before it recovered, forming her Fist of Wind stance to help her outrun it.
The purple bull shook its head and recuperated before it charges at Chiyo again. It pounced at her again but Chiyo swiftly dodges, throwing another two punches at its left leg. The second punch was actually a touch of death. Sin followed up with a blizzard spell to its other leg. Even with both of its front leg stroked, it only seemed to slowed down slightly. In its state though, Chiyo was able to fix in an axe kick in the beast head again, jumping out of the way before it could retaliate.
It was still fixated on Chiyo, but with its faltered speed compered to Chiyo's, it wasn't able to catch the miqo'te. She keep close to keep it interested though in hopes of distracting it, all while Sinette cast several fire spells at the beast. It seemed to be working as the spells gradually burned and tore its flesh. “What's the matter, pal?†Chiyo taunted. “Cat got your tongue?â€
Just then, Dusk threw a snowball at the behemoth and suddenly, it's attention was drawn to him.
“Uh oh,†yelped the young lad.
It paced menacingly toward the young, foolish boy as he was paralyzed in fear. He was in for it now. Dawn can only covered her eyes at this point, unwilling to watch him suffer. As the bull reached out its feet, seeming to swipe him, Sinette uses her aetheriral manipulation to close the gap and pushed Dusk out of the way, but in turn, was swiped instead, sending her flying toward a rock. She was in critical condition.
The beast was then focused on Sin. It slowly walked toward the injured mage, seeming to finish the job. Sin was unable to move, or even defend herself, as she was out of mana at that point. Dusk only watched in horror as his savor was about to get eating. Chiyo ran to see if she can help her, but was quite further away from them now...
Just then, a lance was thrown. It pierced down onto the behemoth's back. It stopped and yelled in pain. Before it can react any further, a dragoon in white landed on its back and yanked out the spear, leaping off, doing a front flip.
Now, the beast turned to the dragoon and ran toward him angrily. Despite the girl's efforts, the monster still had some fight in it. Whether it was a pounce, swipe or stoop, the white dragoon skillfully dodged one attack after another, while stretching and piercing its face and leg as he got the chance. The behemoth then tried to body slam the lancer and it got close, but the dragoon leaped (far) backward into an elusive jump, followed by a spine-shatter dive on its back. He then leaped to its head and tried to slam his lance through its skull, but the beast managed to shake him off...
The dragoon landed on his back and the beast was on top of him as it tried to chomp him up, but the white knight blocked his teeth with his lance. The two struggled to have their way, but it seemed like the beast was slowly bending and biting down the lance caught in its teeth.
While the man and beast were fighting,Chiyo ran to Sinette to help, but the mage shook her head. “Chiyo... please... get the children out of here,†she pleaded. Sin was clearly weak from the attack earlier.
The miqo'te nodded and grabbed Dawn first, pulling her arm. She then tried to grab Dusk too, but he pulled away.
“C'mon!†said Chiyo to Dusk,sternly.
The boy shook his head. “But we can't just leave him!â€
Dusk actually had a point, but Chiyo was too concerned about his safety. “Do you want me to kill you myself, or would ya rather live?!â€
Just then, a flare spell was suddenly cast on the beast. It roared it's last roar as its strength gave out, its body burned an torn as it caught on fire. The dragoon was able to finally break free from its clutches and he kicked its face. The behemoth at that point was struggling to even stand, much less walk toward its opponent, before eventually falling.
Chiyo and the children looked at the beast for what seems like hours. The young behemoth appeared to be unresponsive. The flare spell most of finally did it in. Its body was all but scorch up and in flame. It seemed to be dead alright. The mysteries white dragoon then walked up to the three, almost as if nothing actually happened.
“...Hey, Chiyo,†said the dragoon.
Chiyo immediately knew who it was just by his voice and smiled. She gave the lancer a playful punch on the solar plexus, which the lancer staggered and grunted in pain. Apparently, that actually hurted him a bit, but Chiyo didn't care. “Robert, you son of a bitch.â€
The man named Robert Colt raised his helm. “Nice to see you too.†He coughed.
The miqo'te looked at the scorched beast. “Who to thought “lighthouses†like this can be so fierce.â€
The man laughed. “Heh heh! Yeah...â€
Dawn asked, “Is Sin going to be okay?â€
Chiyo gasped. “Oh shite. Sin!â€
The whole gang ran up to the downed Aura, who was also seemingly unresponsive. Chiyo yelled. “Sin? Sin?!†The mage was barely breathing. She coughed hard several times. Clearly, she was in critical condition. Dying even. The miqo'te lean close to her and lift up Sinette head as she lie there. Her eyes were barely opened, but she looked at Chiyo and smiled. “Looks like I'm finally getting what I deserved...â€
Chiyo shook her head. “Don't say that... Can any of you heal?†Everyone else shook their head silently.
Sin added, “He... a nunh told me that your clan was evil. He said that if I hurt you, he will help untaint me...â€
“The Ebonclaws?â€
“I was stupid enough to believe him.Your sister had every right to kill me when she apprehended me...â€
Chiyo growled angrily. “Sabrith...â€
“Granted, if she did, I wouldn't of helpped Ms. Nira. And I wouldn't of saved him.†He pointed to Robert.
Robert looked down at Sin. “Stop talking...â€
“I used whatever life force I had left of my aether to convert it into my mana... so I can swiftcast into the flare spell. I don't think I have much time left in this crude world.â€
“The world is a crude place,†both Chiyo and Robert said simultaneously.
Sin's voice was growing softer. “I want you to thank everyone in New Conglomerate for me... and Chiyo, I want you to thank Sabrith for... sparring me.â€
Chiyo remained silent.
Sinette's voice grow even softer. Atthis point, both Chiyo and Robert needed to get up closer to hear her. “Robert... I only wish I could of got to know you more... I th-think y-you're a nice, handso-...â€
“Sin, stop talking,†Robert said.
“I lo...â€
And with that... Sin really did stop talking.
Robert kissed the Au ra girl on the forehead. He made sure her eyes were completely closed. “Rest. You deserved it.â€
Chiyo had her arm crossed and took a deep breath. She kept a leveled head, but was clearly mourning. “Nini's gonna flip when she hear this.â€
“Chiyo,†said Robert. “I'm still not exactly sure why Sin attacked you back there but... thank you for sparing her.â€
“I should thank Sabrith too,†said Chiyo. “Sin said somethin' about a nunh claiming us to be evil or something... I dunno, sis might know.â€
Robert nodded once. “We'll talk later. I'm going to find a good place to bury Sin. You make sure to get these kids somewhere safe.â€
“In a minute...â€
Chiyo walked up to the dead behemoth and tried to yank out its horns. “Gimme a hand, will ya?â€
“What are you doing?â€
“I want his-â€
Just as Chiyo was pulling, the behemoth groaned and open its eyes before trying to bite the miqo'te, but Chiyo easily dodges and angrily slammed her fist onto its skull several times, beating its head over and over again until her pugilist arms and gauntlets were covered in its blood, and the beast stopped breathing. She thoroughly made sure it was dead this time. “Bastard!â€
“...I want his horns.â€
With the help of Robert, Chiyo salvaged the young behemoth's horns. One for herself and one for Sabrith. She remember her maintaining that she might want another horn in case she wasn't satisfied with the one Chiyo brought her from Stone Vigil.
“There you go,†said Robert. “Now hurry up before his 'parents' show up.â€
“Thanks. I'll see you later, Robert. C'mon, kids.â€
Both Dusk and Dawn finally obeyed her this time. They seemed to be at tears, especially Dusk. “It's all my fault,†Dusk said, crying. “If I hadn't of run off, maybe she'd still be...â€
“Shut up,†demanded Chiyo. “What's done is done. Sin is in a better place now... hopefully.â€
As she'd dropped the children off to the settlement of Whitebrim, Chiyo realized that she herself was running away from her problems, which wasn't her original intention. She plans to return to the mist sometime tomorrow.
“I'm sick of people dying...â€
