The horizontal expansion Is a good idea however as I like the idea of greater gear diversity. I'd like the level cap increased, but it would be more fun to mess with the weight of secondary stats so that specs emerge, which is something I think FFXIV lacks.

WoW has 5.2 million people paying to use their service.

XIV has 5 million people signed upÂ to use their service. No word on how many people are actively paying.

To my knowledge, Square Enix has not released those statistics, so we won't have a comparison of any sort until they do.

To drive the point home, here are some way lower numbers.

I would agree that gating new jobs behind the MSQ is a poor decision; as one of the premier selling points of an expansion used in large part to draw in more of an audience these should be made much more easily available.

I would say that new Jobs/Races should not be gated by doing ALL of 2.0 MSQ -or- like in the case of jobs at 50 require the early level 20 something MSQ quest. However, I do not think it is horrible to lock the next parts of MSQ behind... doing MSQ. Or if the areas are locked by MSQ, locking it.

I remember that you can take a low level character all the way from a starter area such as Uldah all the way to Coerthas or Mor Dhona. Lock flying to flying but if they can ride a chocobo or be protected while running, cool.

We had a whole thread dedicated to speculation about the new jobs before, and as I recall, the consensus was that it would make sense for the new jobs to have been unlockable in Coerthas rather than simply in Ishgard, since they have to start at level 30, anyway.

And as Kage suggested, it is indeed possible to take a new character from either Gridania or Uldah to Mor Dhona via Coerthas (In Limsa, the ferry is gated, and you have to unlock the Airship to be able to travel from the Island). I've done it three times myself.
