Hello!
I am completely new to the Final Fantasy mythology, although I did enjoy reading the Bannable Offenses blog about the previous FF MMO. I decided to grab ARR since it was on sale right now and I've heard some positive things about the re-release.
I've played a variety of MMOs (although WOW was not one of them), LOTRO being my main one due to my love for the lore. There is an end for all things though, so I'm looking to explore a new setting. I've always played on the unofficial RP servers for all my MMOs. Although I usually stick to just light RP I find those servers are usually populated by a more mature community.
Anyways I started a character on Balmung, and currently just trying to pick up all the new mechanics I'm unfamiliar with. How open is the community to new players? When do groups start playing a large role?
Regarding real life, I am in the military, currently stationed in Japan, which is probably the biggest impediment to consistent playtime. I'm not looking to steamroll through the game, rather just take my time and enjoy the sights.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to play with some of you guys in-game!
