Dear Styrseig,
The old man tells me you put in some work on the sails for Syldra's Revenge. I wanted to thank you for that. I know the last time we spoke it was not exactly the most comfortable thing for either of us. The craftsmanship of those sails tells me you put in a lot of long hours on them, and I know it's more than I deserve. After the calamity, I just wasn't the same person anymore. I was selfish, I admit. You were right about me the whole time. I wish that I could have done things differently. I wouldn't have disappeared and left you and dad with mom.
But the truth of the matter is that I can't change what I did. I can only change the way I act from now on, and I want to be there. I put dad up in a place in Aleport. He gets his needs taken care of from the first of my profits. I'm not saying this to impress your or anything. I just want you to know what's happening. I'm trying. I want to us to be family again. I hope you'll write back, and tell me how you're doing. How's your husband and that nephew of mine?
Sincerely,
Dagh
_________
Dagh,
I have to make a confession. I sometimes wish you were a warrior of light. Then it would be easier to have just forgotten you. I think a lot about when we were younger, and how you and Grei were constantly competing over the stupidest stuff, and how close we all were. We didn't just lose Grei in the calamity, we lost you, too. I always wonder where my brother is, even when I know he's sleeping on some beach, surfing his mornings away. He's not the brother I remember. The brother I know is still lost at sea somewhere. Good thing that I hear you're running around calling yourself Dogberry Himalspyr now. That's the most respectful thing you could have possibly done for Daghbheri Himalspyrsyn. Daghbheri is the brother I know, and you don't deserve his name. The Daghbheri I remember would never have left us alone like that. Selfish doesn't begin to cover it. Try cowardly. Try cold-hearted. Daghbheri was none of these things, but I see them in you in spades.
I made those sails for you because I want you to travel far and fast. I want you to go out and find my brother. Bring him home to me. Then finally the family will be together again.
