I've been brainstorming and molding my character over time, and its still a bit in the works so nothing is really set in stone. Ill still be changing over time and figuring him out to make him not lore breaking, but I also don't know lore very well =/. But I wanted some critique or general advice on what I have so far.

Character: Allegro Symphonic ( Alias only, or nickname. As a way to incorporate my IGN)
Age: 23
Race: Mi'qoteÂ
General Class: Astrologian/Dabble in Bard(Not OOCwise, but in characterwise?)

Description/Comments: Allegro is his alias or nickname, his actual name is being formed out to give him lore legitimacy, he is a doman mi'qote who moved to ishgard long ago so he has an odd mixed mutt background. He takes on aspects of both cultures to take onto himself. He tries to hold true to his Doman heritage, but also is fascinated with Ishgardian culture as he took up astrology. He enjoys and loves the stars and fortunes, and excitedly talks about it with friends. He gets self conscious about this though, and often apologizes in the middle of his "rambling". The difficulty comes from his mixture of doman and ishgardian culture, as he was born in Doma, but moved to ishgard years ago with distant relatives. He enjoys using his skills to help others in ishgard and Eorzea as a whole, and studies under sharlayan astrology in order to help heal and help the populace. He knows his teachers are frowned upon for teaching this form of astrology.

Last Comments: Anyway, Im hoping I can receive some critique and advice or anything on this. Or if theres anything that sticks out that bugs anyone.

Sharlayan astromancy is considered heresy in Ishgard. There is known lore (I'd have to dig to find it, I think it's part of the AST quests) of Sharlayan astromancers being put to death in Ishgard. Just something to consider. Otherwise everything sounds chill to meÂ Thumbsup

Edit: By astromancy I mean astrologians. I've heard both terms thrown around.

It is? I am not an authority on the matter, having only done the first 2 quests, but that seems unlikely. I mean, I doubt the Athenaeum Astrologicum would even be there if Astrologians were considered heretics.

I'm not sure Miqo'te are native to Doma, and Miqo'te have also been rare in Ishgard. That might be something worth explaining, as well as why/how he got his nickname.

I recall some quest text that said a Sharlayan astrologian's father was killed for spreading the practice of astromancy in Ishgard, but maybe that was a past thing and Ishgard has relaxed it's stance on it.

Sharlayans aren't allowed to spread the teachings of their home outside of the Islands. AST spoiler below.

The Ishgardians find it largely useless and without any great deal of merit particularly because teaching it would remove focus from the orthodox Ishgardian Astrology; using the starts to divine the movements of the Draconic horde.

That said TL: DR version of AST questline: Sharlayan astromancy was heresy, people got killed over it, but its k now again and the Ishgardian and Sharlayan way are becoming one again, Sharlayans don't seem to like it though.

I'd suggest taking a look at this recent thread on Doman Miqo'te to help you out with a little background on that side of his culture.

I'm still working on how to implement his name allegro as just an alias or a nickname. As for his domain miqote name do I just go by regular doman naming conventions or do I go by miqote first name and then doman last name? It's hard to understand it when it mixes X.x. And yeah I'm up to date on the astrologian storyline up to level 58. I know in ishgard they're a little iffy of sharlayan astromancy but it's really sharlayans that dislike it being spread.

Up to you, really. The Doman Lalafell we have in game uses Plainsfolk naming conventions for first name and Doman last name. So a Miqo'te could follow a similar pattern. But like I said in the linked thread, the 26 Eorzean Tribal designations would probably not apply to Doman Miqo'te, unless he migrated from Eorzea to Othard. Alternatively, using a japanese character as a Othardian tribal designation might also be acceptable.

I just used Plainsfolk naming, with the different LN just being in place to differentiate my PVE main from my RP character. In reality, she is just Virara Vira. o3o

Since Lalafell naming conventions are so specific, I'm not quite sure how Doman names will interact with them. I feel that using a Doman surname or syllables that give the feeling the family is trying to blend in with the locals may work, for Lalafell or Miqo'te. I definitely like the idea of using a Japanese character as a tribal designation. It could even be used to cause some confusion among native speakers to heighten a sense of being foreign. ç‹¼ (Rou) could be "wolf" for Wolf Tribe, but translation convention makes the Eorzean characters English to our eyes as viewers, meta-speaking, so it becomes R. Yet that is for the Raptor tribe, so that could cause some amusing confusion for RP conversations. This is just speculation, as Doma is not Japan, only supposedly Japanese-like, and thus anything in regards to this is ambiguous at best. I don't really know for certain how we are to take the translation convention in setting as a fictional device; are they always speaking the same language? Are Doman words really exactly the same as some Japanese words in setting or are they a Japanese-like language that has translation convention to make it into Japanese even in an English release, with translation convention for Eorzean to English, but then how does that work in the Japanese release and argh...
