This needs to never happen. Half of the reason I go to the Grindstone is to watch Judge casually shout at people and see the regulars accept it as normal. He's one of the most interesting and entertaining PC's I've had the pleasure of lurking near, even if I do feel sorry for his horse.

Anyway, I got thinking about this thread when I had some free time, and it made me figure that if there are conspiracy theorists in our world, there must be some in Eorzia, right? "Dragon breath can't melt Ishgard walls", "The Sultana is a literal puppet and Raubahn is a master ventriloquist" kind of thing. Do any of the lore buffs know if some of the NPC's have spouted anything like that? Might give an idea as to how wrong people in the setting can be.

Should and will are, fortunately, two very different words. Thumbsup

And don't worry too much about Bench. He is a well-trained warhorse who is frequently given snacks by the Grindstone staff. He's got it pretty good.

Has heard and likely believes that most Seekers of the Sun are exhibitionist in nature.

Has heard and likely believes that Lalafell breed by budding.

Has heard and likely believes that Au Ra males are not as large as one might believe (in a certain way).

Believes that no Miqo'te needs to visit or stay in the Coerthas Central Highlands anymore (she might be right).

Aghurlal has a phobia of ghosts, spirits, and demi-gods / god-like beings. This has lead to some rather paranoid beliefs about, say, the "Godswood"... he's convinced that if he ever steps foot in the Black Shroud, the Elementals will seize on his inner evilness and "get him", possibly torturing him forever and/or delivering his spirit unto the same realm as his father's somehow so he can torture him.

Several factors have lead into this phobia (and subsequent paranoia) being as bad as they are - like his PTSD relating to his father and his father's death, and his near-lethal encounter with Ifrit - so... I really, really don't want to just handwave it away.

Sure it means for now I basically just can't take him to Gridania, at all. And that's real inconvenient sometimes. But I developed him into this mess - I think it's fair that I'd want to develop him out of it as well.

Suen thinks that the fabled allagan nodes are beings with feelings too. She would literally lose her mind if she met one and would probably go cuddle it until death ensues.

I've been lurking and reading responses for this thread, I guess I'll put some stuff in here xD.Â

Zhara pretty much thinks she can do everything and anything. She thinks she'll be able to find time to be a performer in her band WYNG as well as in her entertainment company, train as a summoner with a soulstone she got through her brother'sÂ inheritance, always be able to cook and clean hers and Chachan's place, and also help run a smithing business. She stretches herself out too thin and needs to realize that she needs to take a break every now and then.Â

Liara has almost an over sensitivity if someone picks a flower or does a minor thing to disturb nature. She doesn't want Nophica and the elements to be mad at her friends so sometimes she'll make a big deal when someone punches a tree, picks a flower, or even defecates behind a bush.

Alexia vehemently believes moogles aren't real. Despite living in a world with many strange creatures and bizarre happenings, she refuses to believe in the puffballs, simply because she's never actually seen one. Where does mail come from? A very sneaky postman. What are all the people who claim to have seen moogles actually seeing? White sylphs. If somebody throws a moogle at her? WARM SNOWBALL.

Open your eyes sheeple, you're letting the Seedseers control your mind with their ideas of tufts of fur who worship larger tufts of fur!

Leih..... Let's put it this way: She is wrong about 95% of the things she knows. She even believes that 'rescuing damsels' means saving FLIES. (Thanks for that Warren!)

It's mostly because she was raised reading fairy tales like they were history. She truly believes in them and the lessons in those stories.

Saoirse is an average ignorant girl, mostly because she only ever was around her superstitious Gridanian parents and their deep Shroud wives tales and beliefs, or Noscean farmers and anyone within the Arcanistâ€™s guild. She has a basic understanding of the aether, how it works, etc but everything else is in muddled bits and pieces. Since she's a â€œnewly embarkedâ€ character, it hasn't come up yet, but I'm excited when it does.

She doesn't know what men's bodies look like unclothed. She's not sure if even all women look the same unclothed. She's convinced there's such a thing as reincarnation, and needs to bury people with their belongings for their â€œnext lifeâ€. She doesn't believe in the Void because she's never seen it herself (lol) but believes there's an â€œotherworldâ€ that spirits and ghastly monsters come from that in difficult conversation sheâ€™ll concede to calling The Void.

She believes that beyond the known Twelve there â€œlocal deitiesâ€, and that things who've been in our world for long such as large trees and boulders have spirits of their own. Offering beloved items to these spirits and local gods can grant favours, but sacrificing the wicked is the best way to appeal to the Twelve. She also believes that heads are precious as they control the undead spirit of the person they belong to, and separating it is a dangerous, selfish, and horrific thing to do.

(A lot of this is based off of Celtic polytheism/paganism admittedly) and that's all just the tip of the iceberg. Hiccups? You swallowed someone's breath and best get it out before you get sick. Milk spoils after a day? You made a friend mad and better apologise fast.

This is going to be fun. And a lot. Sorry in advance.

When it comes to the races of Eorzea... there's a lot. Highlanders are good only for their muscle and he firmly believes even the brightest of the bunch are duller than the dullest lalafell. Especially if they're Ala Mhigans. Miqo'te males - even Seekers - he considers to be a subspecies to their own race, and only tolerated and kept around by females for the sake of procreation, and are good for virtually nothing else. Not just subhuman, but submiqo'te. The title of Nuhn he believes to mean: 'the most seed.' Au Ra are essentially lizards, he's quite sure their tongues are long enough to lick their own eyeballs, and even though he's been told otherwise as far as he's concerned the jury is still out on whether female Auri have actual female parts. He believes all Roegadyn have a distant relation to Amaal'ja, and so the term 'Sea Wolves' confuses him.

He mixes up the relationships of the Twelve. Constantly. Since he is ready to believe all perverted rumors told by the wise sage One-Eyed Wondada, he is sure the rivalry between Nophica and Halone has to do with breast envy.

Even though he travels there sometimes, he is completely clueless to the going-ons of Gridania. He's pretty sure the Padjal are the authority when it comes to choosing blood sacrifices to appease their shiny boogeymans. He does not believe the Elementals are an actual real thing - just a fairy tale to keep citizens in line. Which he thinks is ingenious.

Alcohol has no adverse affects on his physical health.

He's 100% certain it's called 'Thravneer.'

Since he's actually never seen one face-to-face, he thinks the idea of Garleans having a third eye is ridiculous, and is positive people are just mistaking for an eye what is actually a third nipple.

Chakras are made up nonsense propagated by Ala Mhigans to make themselves seem more powerful.

He believes all forms of magick are essentially the same.

He's never seen a kobold, but based on the descriptions he's heard, they are... goblins. Kobold = another term for goblin.

Okay I'm just going to stop myself here but I can go on for ages. You get the idea.

Kallera will often uses terms that sound right to her, but are inaccurate for others.

Example- She will call a person doing something perverted a "lush", even though a lush is someone who is drunk, not necessarily perverted. She doesn't know the proper meaning, and sticks with the way she knows...which is how her parents used it.

Another example is "heart"- she uses that often with matters involving a person's soul or their emotional state. The way she would describe a person getting tempered would be to say their heart was being erased and replaced. Or a person recovering from a breakup is going to have their heart heal given time.

She has not been corrected yet, though the difference had been noticed by at least one person. :fingers crossed:

1.What do your characters believe that you know, OOC, to be fundamentally incorrect about the setting?

That Eorzea is chaos and that true culture and an ideal society was wiped off the map when Doma was destroyed. He was very sheltered and only just met his first hyur, despite many living in his home city-state, at the age of 10. He is still getting over prejudices regarding all non-Raen Au Ra but still thinks Zaela are naturally stronger and less intelligent. He also thinks all Ishgardians are butchers and is wary of Elizen in general. Living in Limsa Lominsa has helped change his world-view but not completely.

2.How do you address people trying to "correct" your character about these misconceptions, especially if it's very important to your character concept? And how often does it happen?

Just like anyone who uses experiences or prejudices based on caricatures as thier truth, Koichi would likely double-down and attempt to use logic to justify his opinions. He isn't generally hateful towards other races but his lack of experience with non-Raen coupled with the sheer culture shock of having to move to Limsa Lominsa helped foster wrong opinions.
