Hello! I'm brand new to FFXIV and pretty excited to be here. I don't know too much about the lore yet, but I'm reading wikis and trying to listen in on RP when I find it for tips. I'm really hoping to find a Linkshell where I can meet some people and make a few friends. Along with a lot of RP fun. I'm happy to talk or answer any questions, and I'm sure I could ask a ton of my own too.

My character is "Iron Lily" on the Balmung server if you'd like to say hello in person!

--MMORPG background
I got started way back in Star Wars Galaxies, and from there moved to FFXI not long after it came out. After that I tried City of Heroes for a while and then settled into WoW for a very long time. Over the years though I would try out other MMOs, at least for a little while. I left WoW and continued to hunt for another home, but I seemed to have some back luck with the games or RP communities moving on. Then I saw FFXIV and it is going strong, so I jumped in!

--RP experience
I started RPing not long after the launch of City of Heroes. So that is like.. almost 10 years? ...I feel so old now. On the bright side I feel like I've learned a lot from better RPers than myself over that time.

--Character ideas/info
I don't know too very much about the lore, but from what I have learned my idea is that my character, is a bodyguard/mercenary who has spent most of her life in Ul'dah. I'm not a fan of giving my characters dramatic backstories or anything beyond what is typical for the lore. I prefer to try to help other stories along and use those experiences to develop my own character, when appropriate. Her personality will probably be quiet and thoughtful. With her being practical and honest. At the moment she is a Lancer. It seemed like a good option for a new player. Eventually I'd like to try Marauder and Gladiator.

--How did you learn about the coalition? I was googling around for FFXIV RP and came across a link to the board in a post on Gamefaq's, I think?

--What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? I'd like to be medium to heavy. I do enjoy playing the game, leveling classes and seeing what the game has to offer but my endgame in the past has been more about RP and friends than raids and progression.

--Anything from real life you'Â€Â™re comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I have a pretty regular schedule. When not taking care of real life stuff I mostly play in the evenings and weekends due to work. I'm not in school. I'm in Graphics, but not much of an artist myself. My hobbies are usually RP and trying to learn a new skill. Piano, programming, and 3d modeling are what most of my free time goes towards at the moment.

Welcome, Iron! I hear you about having bad luck with games/communities moving on. I've been sorta floating in the same state for the last year or so. I'd love to hear more about the characters you've played in other games though, or what ideas you're considering for characters in FFXIV.

I'm also pretty new and just starting to get into both the game and the lore/roleplay, so if you feel like chatting with someone of the same experience level give me a shout!Â

This community has been really great to me so far, and I hope that you find it to be the same.

Hello! Thanks for the reply! I'm in exactly the same place. It's a shame too. So many games had such amazing potential, but for one reason or another most people just moved on. I haven't really met anyone in game yet, but browsing the forums I've seen a tremendously friendly community.

As for my characters in past games:
In City of Heroes I had quite a few characters, but my favorite was always Invinci Gal. I was really new to RP then, so I'm sure some of my RP there was full of all sorts of stereotypes. On the plus side super heroes fit that niche a little better so it was a great place to start. She was strong, tall and tough but not the sharpest of heroes. Her character hook was that near invulnerability had left her without a sense of touch.

In Age of Conan I had Kimiel the rogue. A bit of an alcoholic and a thief. She had a silver tongue and a quick wit and was often her own foil. As dark as it sounds I tried to keep her lighthearted. I had mostly the same character in Lord of the Rings Online.

In Champions Online I was Invinci Gal again, and Susan. Susan was a teen hero. Her character hook was she had the ability to control fire, but was not immune to its effects. She was quite smart and developed a suit for herself and a minor regeneration ability (after a few incidents).

In WoW, there were so many. I had a max level character of every class and race with back stories for all. I'm not sure I could begin to pick one.

There were many more but I think those were the ones that spring to mind first.

But! Most importantly for FFXIV right now I just have Iron Lily. A Roegadyn and a mercenary. My current plan is that she has spent most or all of her life in Ul'dah. She is quiet and reserved. Friendly and devoted to her job which she considers honorable work. She is not highly educated, but does posses a degree of street smarts and common sense.

That's where I'm at for the moment on Lily, but I'm really open to input and she'll grow as she meets new people. I'm open to the idea of other characters in the future, but for the moment I'm entirely focused on just Lily.
