Thanks for stopping by.

I've been playing for about a month and a half now and am really enjoying the game. Unfortunately, I didn't consider taking the time to research the different server's role play communities before starting. The server I am on now does have a group of roleplayers, but it is decidedly small and not really what I am looking for.

I mostly roleplay on play-by-post forums. I like that this community is tied to an active website where I can write and engage my own character and--hopefully--others, as well. Gilgamesh is the server I'm drawn most to at the moment, but really my only influence has been the description provided in the welcome thread. Mainly, this: "If you're interested in joining an up and coming community, this is the place for you."

Since I've already reached level 50 with both dragoon and paladin, and have amassed some decent gear, I'm looking to transfer. What would be awesome of you, pals, is if you could help me determine which of the two main RP servers would be best for me.

I'm pretty active at sporadic times, but late night PST is standard. I also would really like to be introduced to anyone who shares an interest in intricate play-by-post writing that features our characters. I find that the game itself has enough action and dragons to slay that when I do RP it tends to be to kick my feet up with something cold to sip while relaxing with friends. However, I do want to create an engaging story arc with unique challenges, but I personally excel at that on a forum board.

Anyroad, if anyone has any suggestions or knows of writers who would be a good match, please let me know! Thanks in advance, friends.

A lot of the folks here are Balmungolians, including myself, so I can only give you what general information I know about both. Information that is slightly skewed more towards one than the other, of course. So I'll start with that one.

Balmung has a decidedly larger RPer "pool", as it were. A lot more people wandering about and doing RP. This includes FCs and LSes that are for RP purposes, as well as generic walk-up RPs in places like the Quicksand in Ul'dah (you can usually find at least a couple folks milling around there looking for RP at most times of day). It also totes folks from a wide range of locales, so hopefully you can find someone or someones that fits your time schedule.

Gilgamesh, from what I've heard, has a smaller RPing community but also a more close-knit one? They also have their own boards separate from this one at... gilgamesh-rp.com, I believe. Hopefully one of the Gregs will swing by and be able to give you more information about how RP is like over there.

Of course, with Forum RP, you can hang out with folks no matter what server they're on! Big Grin

Thanks for the advice, friend.

Perhaps Balmung is the server for me if there is that large a difference in population. I'll get to work looking up FCs to apply to. I would still be interested to hear from anyone on Gilgamesh, though.

I'm on Balmung too, but someone in another thread said most of the Gilgamesh people are on a different site,  so you might try gilgamesh-rp.com and see if some folks there have answers for you. I do hope wherever you decide to call home, you find lots of fun times and good company to share them with.
