What would be the right phrase to use in situations like, "<language> is a universal language?", "Oh, lots of hubs speak <language>"?

I see Eorzean come up a lot in RP in replacement for English/common and it always sounded a little off, like saying I speak British or I speak American. Is there a right way to go about this?

Haven't read too far into the lorebook, most reliable source I've found so far is "common tongue of the hyur"

Per the Lore Book, the short term is just "common" which refers to "Hyuran Common Tongue". During the Hyuran migrations the language spread all over Eorzea and since the Hyur were easily one of the most populace race, the tongue caught on and eventually became the commonly spoken language in the land, leading to the death knell of other tongues in Eorzea such as the ancient Elezen tongue. As I'm at work I don't have a scan of the page with this on me but I believe my memory is correct.

"Common," "common tongue," or "Hyuran common" all work for the "universal" trade language that has more or less recently spread across the globe. The lore book actually complicates things more than they really need to be, but you can find a wealth of Language Lore here.

As you say, the lore book refers to it as the "common tongue of the Hyur", but Koji does refer to it as "Eorzean" during interview answers.

I'd say either is viable - although "Common" has more support as an in-universe term (the lore book is, after all, a document written from an in-universe perspective, whereas interview answers are 100% meta), "Eorzean" clearly isn't a non-term as I feared it might be given its apparent absence from the lore book.
