At this point it's too early to see if this lasts, and I'm hoping EA will drop their cost once other more reasonable companies begin to list what they will be charging. But at the moment EA has said their PS4 games will be running at about $80 per game. There is a link to the PS4 FAQ page in the following link where I found this news:

Also this is the price from Europe, so it will likely cost less here in the US.

As a person who has console gamed pretty much my whole life... I don't think Enormous Assholes will stick with that price. If they do, it'd be a huge mistake. I can personally say that I just wouldn't buy them. I'd not be able to buy Bioware games anymore, but eh. I'd rather play other games anyway. If this is true, I don't think it will last.

They (general media, other companies, etc.) keep saying the starting price for next gen will be $60 brand new (in the US). We've already seen this with many games already. Still, the average is about $50 and some new games have come in lower than that.

So, it's not just EA saying this, but I can see EA being a (very active) supporter of the practice.

Even so, with home video game history, I can see an initial spike when the consoles release but by a year or so, the average will drop. People will just buy more of the cheaper-priced games. This will especially be evident when more "casual" players enter the market and buy their console sometime after launch. Also, this just gives the competition an edge over companies that want to stick with such a strategy.

Remember when EA was "bullying" Nintendo and the Wii because it thought its lineup was weak? ( http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/ea-sa...ionhttp:// ). It also wants to move totally into online and jettison any Single-Player games. These type of things may hurt EA in the future IMHO and we may see a reversal at some point, the question is "when".

In the end, there are other gaming companies out there who want your dollar and are more flexible in their product strategies.

Amazon is listing PS4 games at $59.99, and they aren't going to take a loss. Sony is committed to keeping game prices the same for the PS4 as the PS3. I've been boycotting EA for its policies for some time. If they really do want to sell their games for $20 more than every other publisher, which I suppose they can choose to do, then it's no skin off my back.

Edit: Also, as I look at that thread, the price is not listed in USD. Prices range very differently from region to region. Games tend to be cheaper in the US than they do in other areas so I wouldn't put much stock in a monetary conversion.
