The small tavern was nearly empty; a bad sign for such an establishment when the sun was already on its way down. On the thin road leading past the Twin Adder encampment, Y'lyfriel Sikah had heard whispers of Ixal encroachment. She'd never seen the feathered beastmen, only had heard stories, and whispers of their near danger had quickened her step.

Not that she had felt any safer when the sun dipped below the trees, and the only safe haven was this small tavern, the few dwellings surrounding it, all huddled inside of a low, wood wall that Lyf could practically see over, if she stood on the tips of her toes.

Regardless, she had ducked inside without talking to anyone. Two grizzled elezen, a man and a woman, were huddled up to the bar, talking to the hyur bartender. The man cleaned wooden cups with a scrap of cloth as he chuckled at some joke one of the elezen had told.

The only other patron, aside from Lyf, was a lalafell. He was asleep in the corner, slumped in his chair with a feathered hat pulled low over his face. A bow and quiver--appropriately small for the little fellow--leaned against his chair.

Y'lyfriel sat still for nearly a bell, flipping through the memorized pages of her grimoire to pass the time. Eventually, when nobody else arrived, and the only sound was the muffled talk of those at the bar, she got to her feet, intent on ordering a drink. Just as she did, the door opened, and a hurried Wood Wailer pushed his face in, glanced around at the tavern's occupants, then quickly ducked out.

After the Wood Wailer ducked in, there were calm, yet content voices outside the door. After a brief, but relatively chipper conversation, Rhesh'ir pushed his way into the inn. The hyur barkeep looked up, nodding with a smirk to the familiar face. The bard removed his hat with one hand, and strolled his way casually to his usual corner. The barkeep put down the wooden mug to grab a clean one, and filled it to the brim.

Rhesh'ir's corner was definitely his, as there was no one else in the relative vicinity, and he made quick work of putting his belongings, few though they were, in their proper places. After sitting his lyre against the seat, he walked up to the bar, glancing around at the patrons. He leaned against the counter with his side, still glancing around.

"Slow night, is it?" Rhesh'ir asked quietly. The Elezen kept their glances mostly to themselves, and began their own conversation.

"You really need to ask that?" the barkeep replied with a chuckle. He returned to cleaning the cups. "Maybe if you started playing now, a few waywards might find their way here before the beasts swallow them during the night."

The miqo'te smiled. "What a pleasant thought. I doubt it." At that, he picked up the mug, gave a small nod, and headed back to his corner. After a few gulps, he picked up the harp and began strumming casually. It was just enough to take the silence away between breaths and lulls in conversation.

"Be it for gil or glory."

Lyfriel ducks her gaze as she recognizes Rhesh'ir, intent on keeping him from seeing her (though, who knows how successful she is.)

She sits back down at her table, and immediately buries her face in the pages of her grimoire, turning back to the first page, and re-reading what she has already spent the last bell pouring over.

When the bard's pleasant music sounded from the corner, her quick ears perked quickly in its direction. Her lips thinned as she thought, silent, tail swishing in frustration. After a few long moments (and undeniable enjoyment of Rhesh'ir's music) she turned in her chair to watch him, staring. A flush of color crept into her cheeks as she looked into his eyes briefly.

In spite of the calmly nature of the miqo'te's music, the two elezen at the bar have turned to listen to him, their own conversation with the bartender now playing second fiddle to the tunes.

The song continues for a time.  The notes are serene, relaxing, more of a warm up than anything else.  About midway through, rumbles of thunder from a distance away can be heard.  The storm was still far off, but approaching quickly.  Already the sun was gone; it was an early night.

Stares from the patrons no longer caused his gut to clench.  No one was paying him, therefore foul opinions held little weight in Rhesh'ir's view. Still, it was nice to have a pleasant audience, albeit there were so few of them this evening. A small smile tugged at his lips. He did not ignore the Seeker's glance, but paid it no mind until the song was concluded.

Casually, he strummed gently across the strings, looking down to the instrument while listening.  After making some small tuning adjustments, Rhesh'ir looks up, making eye contact with the one who did the same earlier.

"We meet again, miss," he says quietly, despite being across the room. At another rumble of thunder, his ears turn toward the noise. "It seems there is no exit for either of us this time. At least, not for a while."

"Be it for gil or glory."

Y'lyfriel shifted uncomfortably in her seat, one ear perked towards the sound of the approaching storm.

"Apparently," she said. "Anyroad, I'd not meant to go anywhere. Sittin' tight until the sun is on its way up again, and I can see my feet out front of me on the road."

Her fingers toyed against each other anxiously on the table, and she eyed the bar again. "Do you often play here?" she asked, clearly desperate to get her mind off the storm.

"Feet out in front of you," he repeated thoughtfully, still strumming.  Each word was slow, almost contemplative.  "Wouldn't they be beneath you, more carrying-like? The other image is a bit ridiculous."

He smiled, and cast her a glance before looking down to the harp.  Sounded much better now. Most likely that would change; storms always made his notes flat.

"Not especially," he answered, still calm as ever.  The antsy behaviours of the other miqo'te made his grin stay firmly in place. "Do you?"

"Be it for gil or glory."
