Askier looked out at the clouds that stretched all around him. Nearly two thousand feet below him the earth had given way to vast ocean. Â Behind Askier could still be seen the coast of Thanalan. Â The Garlean smiled as his right hand tightened on the wheel of the airship he rode, the wind tugging at his hair.
It wasn't supposed to have happened this fast. He wasn't supposed to be here yet. But that's how the world worked. Life is what happened while you waited
Askier looked over at the figure in white, clipped to a life line and bound with rope. Â Kanaria wasn't supposed to be here either. Â But she had leapt aboard after Askier had fled aboard one of the three Red Wing airships after he had shot Kahn'a. The fool had threatened to try and stop him after Askier tried to explain things to him. Â Askier felt his stomach knot. He hadn't wanted to do that. He hadn't wanted to hurt Kahn'a, Kanaria, any of them. Â But life is what happened while you waited.
The Garlean turned his eyes from the unconscious woman to the large mass in the middle of the deck. A large canvas tarp hid what was there, obscuring Askier's newest creation from the world. Â
There wasn't to going back. Â Too many people were scheming. Too many claimed they held the answer. All of them were blind. Â They wanted a reason to crush one another. Â Askier was going to give them their chance, and obtain his revenge in the process
