New classes announced |

Famitsu Magazine has recently published a new article revealing new classes for the Disciplines of Land and Hand.

The new classes are: Goldsmith, Harvester, Armourer, Woodworker, and Fisherman.

Harvester: This discipline of land has quite the green thumb, dealing in the cultivation or vegetables, grains, and weaving materials, tending to fruit trees, and collecting herbs and even lumber with the help of their trusty hatchet. They have excellent trade relations with many crafters, such as woodworkers, weavers, alchemists, and even culinarians. They do much of their work in Gridania, with its excellent irrigation system. The harvester holds communication with plants in the utmost importance.

Fisherman: These netpullers put their all into everything having to do with fishing. With their fishing rods, they are masters of surf-, river- and boat-fishing, taking into account the season, time, and weather when choosing their tools, fishing points and bait. Since their occupation takes them to many interesting but dangerous places, it is not out of the ordinary to hire a discipline of war as an escort.

Armourer: Armourers work wonders when their raising hammers hit sheet metal. From a simple plate of metal, they can bring forth plate mail, a chain cap, or many other kinds of armors. Blacksmiths used to handle armor crafting, but as sheet-metal-handling techniques improved, masters of this craft began to emerge. It is now recognized world-wide as its own craft.

Woodworker: Crafters who use their Hand Saws to manipulate wood. They have intimate knowledge of the rigidity, sturdiness, weight and value of various kinds of wood. Their craft is used in making furniture and other handy items. Woodworking developed in Limsa Lominsa’s shipyards and in constructing the high-rises of Ishgard. From the creation of gigantic buildings down to small ritual masks, Gridania, in particular, makes good use of its wealth of fine woods.

Goldsmith: A Crafter that uses gold and other precious metals and gems to create jewelry. Their primary tool is a Chasing Hammer. They also have the ability to modify and strengthen weapons, armor, and other equipment with decorations. Most of the materials involved are pricy, and the trade is often high risk, high return. A keen eye for market trends is a must have.

Not a huge surprise for some of us I'm sure but now it's official.

Edit: Official names may change. For instance, I believe woodworker is supposed to be "carpenter." Time will tell though.

Bah! Now I must re-evaluate whether Soren shall be an alchemist or a goldsmith...*ponders*

Glad to see they are revealing more classes, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for at least one more Disciple of Magic.

I was debating whether or not to bring that up. Looks like I can stop debating.

Yes, I saw this awhile back and was also intrigued by Flayer. I just get the feeling it's going to be overhyped by some people because it's different or for certain other connotations - most of us saw how quickly the DRK stigma took hold...

Frustrated

Sadly, this might be enough to make me not want to play a job I might otherwise enjoy...

Yeah, I've seen that list. Wasn't sure how true it may be this close to launch but after this news...

I'm so curious to know what the Arcanist and Mystic could be =O

Also, Samurai ftw <3

The classes seem rather bland on the outside compared to the iconic classes of the past. No Dragoon, Summoner, Red Mage, etc.. Sad don't really like the way SE is approaching that in this game.

From my understanding, the classes are supposed to be rather bland (at first) as opposed to the games in Final Fantasy past. This is because they wanted to make the classes general enough to build and customize onto instead of reaching into a specific niche.I'm honestly surprised to see anything related to Samurai and the like specifically at all to be honest. From my understanding they only have names in the English version because we like to categorize a lot. In the Japanese version I heard they were just called like, "Fighter" or "Caster" or something. I don't care so much about the general growth of the classes because the real charm comes from blending them to make your own out of the archetype list.

Hmm, if this unoficial list comes to light before launch I'm going to have to change some of my history.

Even if that list holds true upon release, I'm still still sticking to my guns (or bow) on archer, I just love that class. Though I have to admit that Arcanist and Mystic sound intriguing, and Bard would be cool.

Now to update the library section.
