I've been registered on the RPC for a while, and even posted a little bit in support of the Behemoth server RP community a while back (/wave to Zok and Feld). However, I've recently taken the plunge and transferred my pile of characters to Balmung in hopes of finding a good fit for myself in a much bigger RP community.
This means that I've been on the RPC a lot more trying to find events, linkshells, etc! I've already gotten the character who passes for my main joining the Broken Chairs LS, but I'm definitely looking for more people and social spaces to hang out with/in. I'm particularly interested in finding (or creating) a queer-affirming, social justice-aware space.
MMORPG background
I played WoW from vanilla through WoD, and was on Wyrmrest Accord from the end of WotLK onward. I really enjoyed RPing in the setting and being on a large server, and I ran a small RP guild for a time. After leaving WoW midway through WoD out of frustration with the direction the lore was going, I was MMO-less for a time until I picked up FFXIV about a year ago to play with friends -- I'd really been missing having a virtual world to run around in.
I've been enjoying learning about the lore and creating more characters than I could ever possibly play or have slots for, trying to see what sticks. I haaaaaate questing, though, and as a result I am the world's very slowest leveler in FFXIV in particular. (In WoW I got around this by doing archaeology -- no joke, I leveled two or three characters to max level almost solely through that and gathering!)
RP experience
Outside of MMO RP (which is really the bulk of my experience), I've also dabbled in D&D and in some forum/Google Doc and chat-based RP (with the latter two mostly being an extension of my MMO RP). I enjoy having a long-form space to stretch my writing legs, but find it more difficult to be consistent with sometimes.
Character ideas/info
*points to username* Uh. It's been suggested that I have a problem. There are spreadsheets.
There are some themes, though: I tend to play either very "everyday" characters or somewhat bizarre/out there concepts, but either way, my characters are usually anything other than adventurers.
(And that's not even half of them! I also love creating new characters and playing NPCs for storylines, so if you need a bit part for something -- poke me?)
What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy?
I wander around both sides of "medium," I think. I really enjoy character development and exploring the world and the lore, but I don't have the energy to be IC and/or up for RP at all times. I thrive in one-on-one or fairly small group RP, but I try to be game about attending big events, if only to meet new people! (I'm not shy; I just run out of "extraversion points" after a while.) In one-on-one RP I prefer paragraph-style, third person. In-game, I generally write about a post in length at a time, maybe two if really needed for scene-setting, or less if that's all that's needed.
Anything from real life you'€™re comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc)
I am currently in grad school, training to become a counselor! I am a huge nerd in general, with special nerdery in the areas of language/communication, relationships/sexuality, psychology, and sociology. I also enjoy historical costume, science fiction, and enthusiasm. Edit to add: I also REALLY LOVE housing design in the game! Arranging furniture and talking about characters are my two very favorite things in the game, and the sole reason for everything else I do in FFXIV, haha. (On Behemoth, I worked on commission to design spaces, but I think I might be in a much bigger pond now, so to speak! I've seen so much impressive work here already; it's great!)
My classes are all in the evening, and I am a dyed-in-the-wool night owl, so even though I'm on Central Time, I'm usually online after midnight EST on into the early morning during the week, and at all kinds of hours on the weekend.
Feel free to send me a PM anytime, or say hi in-game; I'm also happy to share my Discord info. I'll be poking around the forums some more and seeing about getting myself out to a few events in the coming weeks, as well as (no doubt slowly) working on getting wiki pages up for my characters.
Thanks for reading! I'm really excited to be here.
