We are around one month in now and I am starting to look for a guild as I am sure many hydaelyn rpers are. Which rp guilds actually have a mass following at this time?
RPC has moved! These pages have been kept for historical purposes

The ones with the people in it! I don't think it really matters on who has a "mass following" or not. It depends on the type of RP you are looking for and the group you are willing to hang out in. There are some linkshells under the tab if you want to give those a look over.

Don't limit yourself to only RPing with one LS or FC. Branch out, make friends.

I have three alts, all of them on different FC's. Figure out which type of RP you want to engage in first, then decide what FC sounds right for you. Just because it's small doesn't mean it won't still be quite active.

Well my advice is find a FC that is active and RPing. That will help you build a forward story that is connected to others and provide some rich RP. Some prefer to go solo on RP though.
Also tap into the events (check out the home page on this forum), a great way to meet many people. If chatscroll is an issue (it is) then use Party (oh you have already re-purposed Event for RP only text?) Join one of the general RP LS and shout out or join in the RP. You will soon find where the RP is happening and you can then also pick up more casual RP around there. Prepare some opening lines if you feel a bit shy... you know "Hello I lost my pet have you seen a <insert description>" (maybe a thread worthy subject in itself?) And always throw RP hooks/rocks at people who just happen to be around, like the fisherman or the person enjoying the view, or the person you help against overwhelming odds etc.. You don't always get a bite and it may only be a brief exchange but it all adds up. Char: [Nebula Stardancer]  FC: [East Eerie Trading Co]

There's no greater way to shoot yourself in the foot as a role-player than to settle for the 'biggest' organisation you can find. Quantity does not necessarily equal quality and many role-players end up getting drowned out both IC and OOC if they're part of a very large group of players. Establish what exactly you want to get out of role-play, network and make connections. Heck, you might want to make a thread asking if anyone is interested in teaming up with your character to travel together and attend to whatever matters drive your character's story. It'll take more effort, sure, but the reward is greater at the end. |

^^ this. A hundred times over, this. Theodric hit the name on the head. Quantity does not equal Quality. Great RP takes not only time but effort to find. Sometimes, you have to be the one to reach out and make the connections, even if it bends your character's "personality" to do so (mostly in the cases of extremely shy/introverted character concepts). Otherwise, you're going to be sitting around not enjoying yourself and no one wants to play a game they don't enjoy!

Well just to fly in the face of it, spreading yourself over multiple FCs means alts, which means diluted story. Whatever works for you in the end.

Not certain what diluted story would mean in this context, but I'll just say - not necessarily! Also, there are RP linkshells out there (including my own), and since you can be in multiple linkshells, they are a very easy way to ICly network. Whatever works for you in the end. LS I think are great as they offer great flexibility and one character can be in many, unlike a FC, which is what the point was aimed at. Simply if you spend all your time RPing one character in one FC it should be a rich and deep story built up over time and shared with others in the FC etc.. If you spend that time instead with six Characters in six separate FCs then it is likely to be a more "diluted" (among your characters) RP experience. Volume is not the same as Quality. Though there is much that could be said on stories that span characters and having a richness in that way. Neither is better than the other, and there are degrees not absolutes. It all depends what you want and can find. Char:Â [Nebula Stardancer] Â FC: [East Eerie Trading Co]

Volume is not the same as Quality. But quantity and quality aren't mutually exclusive things. As an altaholic, I always find RPing multiple characters as helping me to better shape an understanding of the world lore, as you have to approach situations in different manners, and that they have more variety. RPing alts also helps to relieve burnout, if that is an issue for any folk (I know that it can be for me). I find that I have to switch it up and play different characters to keep things fresh. Playing many characters doesn't mean that they don't/can't be developed to deep extents, but it does keep your options to explore themes of a much greater depth and breadth. |

Talk about having romantic involvements and people complaining about not spending time with your character and ow they haven't seen so and so because you never log on to him/her. Also I personally am not capable of keeping up with all the fun stories I would want to act out with different characters. But alas to each their own. Now then to the OP! Echoing what everyone else has said, I would definitely encourage LS involvement. It truly is the gateway to meeting new people and learning about their FC's icly then making a decision that is not only best for you but best for your character as well. Good luck to you! And if you are ever on Gilgamesh feel free to stop by Ambrosia for a drink and watch a performance or two. |
