^ Do people do that? Seems rude to invite people into RP then go "WE aren't telling you what's going on lalala". Like... I'd certainly be expected to to be let in on stuff if they invited me. If you can't give people context at that time, at least send them a tell letting them know "Hey, my character just can't break away from this train of thought, gimme a minute" or something.

Like... a LOT. More than I care to mention. The ability to actually bring people into a story is a lost art >_>. And whenever I request to be thrown a bone, I get the'not here to hold hands' excuse. Oooookay. So I'm supposed to pick up a book, flip to chapter 12, and know exactly what's going on?

But yeah, as stated in #3 of Tier's guide, OOC communication can go a long way to alleviating any and all problems. OOC communication is basically the equivalent of tabletop players asking for clarification of the staged scene, so they better know how to interact with it.

This is a fantastic thread!

I'm a big fan of Tobias' style of hooks. I created C'kayah to be sort of a supporting actor in other people's stories, and I find that those sorts of hooks work really well for introducing him into people's RP without taking it over. It's also nice in that I've been able to use those hooks to meet a bunch of new RPers on Balmung who have wanted to RP but didn't know anyone. If I see someone by themselves with a RP tag on, or walking around, I'll typically at least "/em studies blah blah curiously" them (and often send them a /tell) to see if I can draw them into something.

The weird thing is that, despite my being a total introvert, C'kayah's turned into kind of a social butterfly with this. The payoff, of course, is more RP than I can eat. The downside, on the other hand, is that I've gone from level 34 1/2 to level 34 2/3 in the last week of heavy game play because of this.Â Big Grin
