On an absolute (i.e. real-world) scale, it's a complete waste of time (though to be fair, this goes for almost the entirety of the relic weapon questline).
If you're happy with it, all the more power to you. I'm not going to encourage anyone to follow in your footsteps, however.
What I spend my time doing is my business. What I enjoy is also my business. I happened to enjoy making my gil, SBing when I was doing dungeons, and such. If I saw playing this game as a waste of time, I oddly enough, wouldn't play it. People place different value in different things, I happen to enjoy playing this game more than I would doing "real-world" hobbies.
I don't really care what you encourage people to do. I care that you slight people who do it differently from you.
