I myself and several other folks use SweetFX. Wich is an injector + configurable shader pack basically. Which for me means I don't feel the need to go in and add warmth/increase colour saturation for the screens I take. Like I was doing for the screens I took before I figured out how to add SweetFX.
But if I do decide to edit a screen I usually use paint.net. Which is a free download that's a bit more advanced than the paint program windows comes with. but not nearly as complex as professional softwares. http://www.getpaint.net/ if you'd like to see it.
