
My character doesn't swear often since he's fairly well spoken. If he did, though, I'd go with what can be encountered in-game already rather than a lot of the 'modern' stuff that some people swing with.
The likes of 'Fuck', 'slut', 'gay' and 'retard' just feel very out of place to me. There's other words that are used by actual NPC's that have the exact same meaning without making a scene feel like I'm interacting with a modern day chav.
On a side note, I'm British myself and I've noticed that a lot of role-players like to add what they think is 'British' slang to their character's vocabulary. My advice? If someone who is actually from England can't understand what your character is saying then chances are most other people struggle as well. Might be a good idea to tone stuff down a bit unless it's intentional!
