If those NMs /are/ part of the plot though, wouldn't it make sense that we find something out, since we are in essence killing the Goblins that are related to this story, as you said. Although this would be outside of your OOC planning, if we happened to come upon it through IC means with no OOC spoilers/metagaming, IC'ly we'd find w/e it is ahead of your planned event... which can also spin off into interesting RP.
Your event will need to be altered, but that's world-RP for you. Otherwise it seems you OOC'ly are keeping the event just for the sake of it, even though IC'ly things would happen differently. Doesn't matter to me, but I was just going by IC, and it would suck if we hit some OOC boundaries in the process just because it was unplanned.
