Seemingly abandoned in Limsa Lominsa by parents who had brought him from Ul'dah, Volkai Nailo came to adventuring by way of the Order of the Stormguard, a secretive organization to which his mentor and adoptive parent Seventh Pillar (a Roegadyn merchant and pugilist of some reknown) belonged. As he came of age his mentor inducted him in to the Order, and his life was comparatively quiet until he found himself back-to-back with Keir Loell during a slaughter now known as the Sundering.
As Keir worked to rebuild the Order, Volkai sought out the perpetrators of the Sundering - those responsible for Seventh Pillar's passing. Unfortunately, his search was fruitless, and as he was distracted by this, the Order, already shaken by the Sundering, crumbled completely, and after this happened little was seen of Volkai.
However, given his drive to find those responsible for the Sundering, it is unlikely he gave up the ghost during the Calamity.
