Why do you have to do something so very outlandish to the setting? Why can't you do something to the same effect without pushing the boundaries of the setting and saying, "Screw the game, let me just do this instead!" There's a rather large community out there that would die for a person/group of people to step up and make events like galas and dances and even actual taverns and such with music and such. It doesn't have to be a night club.
