I wasn't aware it was even available to download. Â It's certainly not on the launcher, which is what I was talking about. Â If you can download it on the launcher, it should be 100% safe and just won't be "on" until they flip the switch at headquarters.
Where exactly did you download it?
When I entered the bonus code for the early access, and after it downloaded I couldn't get on xiv without a big red lettered error message on the sign in page until I deleted it.

Apparently there was an issue with the PS4/PS3 versions of the game where if you entered in your Heavensward code, it would download the patch data and cause the game to stop working (mentioned here on the Lodestone.) It didn't effect PC players.
As for the patch itself, I would expect it to become available during the 24 hour maintenance they're putting up right before early access, since that seems to fit how they've done all of the recent patches as well.
