I ran into a lot of similar issues, and a lot of OOC rage because I played a Sultansworn that went out on missions and acted sort of like law enforcement. Aka I didn't just stand upstairs in the royal area. There were lots of people that raged, but just as many that helped me figure out a way to play it within the lore, and to know what that lore was. I think it's important to understand people's hesitancy if you're RPing a character that is questionable lore wise, but as Warren says, if you do your homework and play it well, people will come around.
