He managed to escape (or was out of town at that time for some reason, I'll mull it over) and his faith was shaken, and he becomes an old drunkard.  (and later on he meets and teaches monksy things to others.  While still being a drunkard.) An old, grouchy, drunken Lalafell.  This could be great.
