You can still be a shinobi/ninja/rogue without the soulstone, look at Yugiri and all her followers.Â
This is just me being nitpicky, of course, and I might be wrong, as I haven't done the ninja questline, but I do think this applies to EVERY soul stone.Â
With respect (and I really don't mean this to be condescending) but that's misinformation. While it's true that soul stones are rare, "one in the world" is completely false. Both the Summoner and Dark Knight storylines show that there's certainly more than one of each. Â (Tristan is collecting them, and Frey and Sidurgu both hold them in the Dark Knight storyline.)
BLM questline also backs it up and it's actually a requirement to have that soul stone or bad things will happen to you. So having "only one in the world" would be completely dumb to use magic that'd destroy you before you destroy others.
