Ancel would be a side-quest NPC that could be met at various taverns, camps, and roadways throughout the game. Once met, he will not appear at that location again.
During the initial conversation with this NPC, he will ask the player to travel to a remote location to verify the presence of a trinket commemorating the journey. Trinkets will be different at each location. As Ancel is met each time, he will ask about the last location's trinket. If the player answers correctly, he will give them another location. If the player correctly locates twelve locations and reports back, Ancel will inform them that they have visited the tributes to twelve 'guardian spirits whose names were lost', and will share their tale via brief cutscene. He will then present them with a Vagabond's Whistle, a single-charge item that allows the player to summon* him once per battle. The Whistle recharges at a random interval with an unknown minimum, so with any use beyond the first, there is a chance that using it will have no effect.
After issuing the Whistle, he will no longer be found.
* - Once summoned, Ancel will deal 3 critical hits (dealing damage based on the whistleblower's stats) to the entire opposing party while refreshing all player characters' MP by 50%.
