Solo emoting is a great way to show people that you're down to RP! It's a sort of social display. I think people nearby may make more of an effort to include or approach you if they see that you're roleplaying.
If you're emoting to make your character appear antisocial or unapproachable, that could get in the way. When in doubt, keep an eye out for other people who are into RP and don't be afraid to send a tell to someone who's open to it!
