Also when you get to Balmung check out the [RP Linkskell & Free Company Lists for Balmung] for things that suit you.

I used to be very much the same like you. I did not know of a roleplaying community even existed on FFXIV. Thankfully I had the luck of making an alt at the time on Balmung, however I did end up transferring my main in the end to Balmung anyhow. Sadly enough for you though, you're subjected to transferring from another server as sadly enough the server here is constantly locked.
However, as you are still new to the server, you can still conjure up whatever character concept you had in mind, and no doubt people would love to help you out with that on the RPC!
