They've had afros in Final Fantasy games before. It's a serious hairstyle in real life. It fits the aesthetic fine I think, plus it's unisex and the only hairstyle being added that is truly curly (the two long styles are really just wavy) . It probably won't be everyone's taste but especially with a thing like hairstyles you can't really please everyone, I'm just glad they're adding more and this is just one batch before the next wave that includes contest winners.
