I would like to see fishing become more like fishing games. Like adding an angling function to fishing.
You could just kinda let the line sit and hope you catch something good. Or, you could use a lure and try to hook something special. It could be a reaction-sensitive or mash-sensitive struggle with the fish. You have to mash it to keep it in a certain area in order to keep the fish, but don't mash too hard or you'll rip the line free.
There would still be RNG involved. Sometimes you have to suffer through the embarrassing rite of passage of struggling fiercely with an Old Boot.
Some fish might even initiate a purple encounter circle, much like those you find during quests, in which you can change classes without incurring CD loss, and that will spawn a Notorious Fish that will fight you! I was sad that I could not fight the infamous olgoi-khorkhoi of my cryptid worshiping dreams...
Anyway, I'm definitely not trying to make fishing more like certain other games I enjoy. Clearly.
