People in this setting are religious. Because magic exists. Whereas folk from Othard do not have the Twelve, they got their own gods. The Dusk Father and the Dusk Mother for the Xaela and Raen respectively. And the Domans seem to praise all things surrounding them.
So making a char /not/ religious is rather odd. It's valid, but they would be more the exception but the norm.
That said...
I don't think running around in Garlean outfit + not believing they are a real soldier is something what would happen... But that is totally up to you.
