It should be noted that they tuned the benchmark for future systems. They wanted to prove that the graphics will still be lovely and updateable for the future. So there shouldn't be a computer in existence for common retail that can score 8000 (hypothetically).
edit- also, due to them being sponsered by nvidia, if you're running ati you're going to get lower scores than if you were running nvidia. That stuff should be fixed by launch though.
