...okay, you got me.
Necessary disclaimer... please don't meta-game any of this. If you do, I will ignore you. If you think it would be fun to do a plot revolving around something I've written here, for the love of god contact me OOCly first so we can discuss it. I'm completely open to his backstory stuff and his secrets being discovered and becoming relevant, but not when it's sprung on me without prior permission. Thanks

BACKSTORYThis eccentric Xaela would have quite the story to tell - if he ever told it to anyone. As it is, the true details of his past are a secret to all, despite the various rumours that abound.
He was raised by the tribe Isüsiregen. Notorious for infiltration, manipulation, and utter destruction of any who they targetted, this small tribe did not treat their own much better. Aghurlal's father - the tribe leader - was displeased at Aghurlal's birth, and killed his mother for it. Many more horrors were visited on Aghurlal by his family long before he reached adulthood.
One night, Aghurlal did something against his father's laws: he took a lover from outside the tribe. Said lover paid for Aghurlal's trespass with his life; Aghurlal was distraught, but feigned stoicism. That night, he took his father's prized weapons - a pair of twin daggers named the Fangs of the Father - and went from tent to tent with them, slaying all who had wronged him. At the end of the night, he'd spared only a handful of individuals.
Even having had mercy on those he believed were not evil, Aghurlal knew he would never again go by the name of Isüsiregen. He took supplies to travel with, gave his lover funeral rites, burned the camp, and ran - never to look back.
Shortly after arriving in Eorzea, he was picked up as a mercenary by the powers that be in Ul'dah. However, on his first mission - to investigate a recent slew of Amalj'aa kidnappings - he was captured and submitted for tempering. He survived alone against Ifrit until, miraculously, a group of heroes arrived to fight by his side.
Afterwards, the heroes helped ensure he was returned to health, and even helped him obtain a chocobo and the services of two retainers. Yet even for all their kindness, when they told him he had a special gift - the "Echo" - and asked him to fight more Primals with him, he declined. He'd been plagued with terrors by daylight and flashbacks by night since fighting Ifrit, and simply could not bring himself to do it all over again.
He fled to Limsa Lominsa on the next available boat. Believing strongly that he should be able to choose his own fate, he's purposefully avoided any further run-ins with the call to heroism. He makes active effort to conceal his Echo - simply keeping his head down, integrating himself as best he can into the society of Limsa Lominsa, and trying to build something better for himself.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Languages spoken: All (Echo, yo)
Accent or dialect: None (see above)

Most languages written in Doman script: Fluent.
Eorzean and Eorzean script: Beginner.

Do they curse: When the people around him are cursing, yes. When he's in pain, yes.
Demeanour: Alacritious.
Mannerisms: Highly mood- and environment-dependent. He tends to mirror the people around him.
Gestures: Tend to be quite reserved, contrary to his demeanour. His tail is the most expressive part of him.

PROFESSIONAL INFO
Current occupation: Dayjob at the Fishermen's Guild; career at the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss. Takes battlecraft leves on the side for supplemental income when work is slow (both his jobs are based on demand).
Level of job satisfaction: High for both steady jobs. Moderate for battlecraft leves.
Years at current occupation: Like 1 probably.
Income: Combined income is enough to comfortably pay rent on a small apartment in Mist.
Professional skills: Spear-fishing, rod-fishing, gutting and preparing fish for transport or sale... plus eavesdropping, getting himself into places that the owner didn't want him to get into, surreptitiously lifting evidence in such a manner that it won't be discovered until he's long gone, that kind of thing.
Combat skills: Expert. He's a career "cull-miller", I mean...
Additional information: He began training in the skills he uses in his Sisters job when he was about 6. Mirroring other people's mannerisms to gain their trust, obtaining items from them without their knowledge or consent, and killing people quickly and efficiently in a variety of ways are all things he is very, very good at. Everything else is new and something he's learning as he goes along.

LIVING CONDITIONS
Place of residence: An apartment in Mist, Ward Nine. You know that beach-front door underneath Plot 30? That's where his apartment building is. He's in room 5.
Type of residence: One-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment.
Surrounding area: Mist residential ward.
Describe residence: The place has been getting more and more homely since he moved in. The tenancy allows you to swap furniture in and out of their storehouse according to your need, so he's recently swapped a second desk for a sofa now he has more regular guests, that sort of thing. He's definitely settling in.
Who do they live with: His retainers don't officially live with him, but they visit at least once a day to make sure he's, like, eating.
Pets: None.
Overall quality of living conditions: Pretty damn good by Eorzean standards.
Home décor: Riviera.
Important features of home: Has a bath and working shower. The water is heated with fire shards, which he purchases fairly regularly as a result. That's probably his biggest living expense (and the first thing that would be cut if he somehow lost one of his jobs).
Additional information: Fun facts... although he pays his own rent, he actually does so at a discount. The Sisters make up the rest (for now, at least). Why? The whole reason he's living here in the first place is so he can keep an eye on his long-term marks... the free company Polaris, who have taken up residence in Plot 30 of Ward Nine.

PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Relationship status: I drew a diagram.
Significant partner(s): In no particular order, Shirogawa Mitsuhiko and Defiant Bride.
How did they meet partner: He met Shiro while doing a promotion for work. He met Defiant because she approached him while he was fishing and asked to buy some so she could practice her cooking.
Nickname for partner: Shiro and Def.
Previous romantic partners: A xaela from another tribe named Goni, who was murdered by Aghurlal's father.
Relationship with children: He thinks he would like them one day, but probably not any time soon.
Mother: Ilalta Isüsiregen
Age: late 20s when deceased
Living or deceased: Murdered by Aghurlal's father immediately after Aghurlal's birth
Mother’s occupation: Concubine to Dalubcierlig
Father: Dalubcierlig Isüsiregen
Age: late 50s when deceased
Living or deceased: Murdered by Aghurlal shortly before he left for Eorzea
Father’s occupation: Leader of the Isüsiregen tribe
Siblings: Several. To name some:
His oldest brother Maghu Isüsiregen, expected by all to be the next tribe leader. Had a sadistic glee around making Aghurlal's life miserable. He is deceased; Aghurlal took special care to ensure that.
Maghu's twin sister Tuiba Isüsiregen, who was killed a few years ago during a failed effort to infiltrate the Malaguld clan.
His cousin Moriladughui Isüsiregen, who was Aghurlal's primary caregiver growing up. One of two people Aghurlal tried to ensure the survival of; it worked, and he is now Morila Kahkol.
His older brother Delterkis Isüsiregen, who supported Morila in raising Aghurlal. The other person Aghurlal tried to ensure the survival of; it worked, and he is now Delterkis Kahkol. Delterkis also ensured the survival of some of the Isüsiregen's children, and is the one who lead them to safety with the Kahkol.
Extended family: Most of the Isüsiregen were directly related to each other. Aghurlal torched the camp when he left; very few survive to this day, and those who did were later absorbed into the Kahkol.
Friends: Very few. He acts friendly with more people than he considers his friends.
Best Friend: Probably his retainers, Sinistrae and Dextrae.
Describe relationship with friend(s): "Arm's length" sums it up. He comes across affably, but rarely trusts others truly.
How does the character relate to:
Spouse: Has doubts about the institution of 1 partner per marriage.
Lover: Does his best.
Past lovers/spouses: Misses him greatly.
Children: Wants them one day.
Friends: Keeps them at arm's length.
Employer: Respects but often disobeys.
Underlings: Jokes around a lot with.
Minions: Hates the idea of anyone having "minions".
Pets: Doesn't trust himself to take care of one.
Strangers: Distrustful.
Opposite gender/Same gender: Doesn't really understand or relate to Eorzean concepts of gender.
Family members: Kill on sight.
Competitors: Friendly rivalry.
Authority: Contempt.
Enemies: Assumes himself to be kill on sight to them, and reacts accordingly.
Additional information: Aghurlal isn't aware of his status as a bastard i.e. that his father isn't his biological father. But he's aware that the circumstances he was born in were "wrong" enough that his mother was murdered for them, and he's aware that from a very young age, he was expected to atone for his mother's "sins". Because of the circumstances of his birth, he is very lucky that his father chose to kill Goni first that night and not him.

CHARACTER PERSONALITY AND PSYCHOLOGY
Any psychological issues or illnesses: PTSD is the tip of the iceberg. Likely an anxiety disorder of some kind. Probably FLEAS from his shitty family.
Meyers Briggs Personality Type: INTJ [introverted, ideas (over facts), thoughts, plans (over spontaneity)].
What do they love: Personal freedom.
What is their passion: Fishing; justice.
What do they hate: Slavers. Rapists. Sadists. He will and has murdered such people.
What would they die for: Limsa Lominsa. Eorzea. (Until recently, he would deny this, but he very nearly did die for both, and now finds himself weirdly at peace with that fact.)
What do they value: Respect, freedom, safety.
Secret loves: Sweets, cigars, sex.
Sexual behavior: Reserved and almost hesitant/guilty at first, then - as he comes to trust his partner - needy as all seven hells.
Personal philosophies: Doing the right thing is more important than loyalty. Doing the right thing is more important than preserving the lives of those who do evil. Doing the right thing is more important than preserving his own life.
Politics: Broadly liberal.
Spirituality: Superstitious. Doesn't want to make anything more powerful than him angry. Doesn't worship anything in particular. Didn't believe Primals could be real until he saw one close-up. Believes in + is terrified of ghosts.
Prejudices: Against other Xaela. He assumes them to be Dotharl-like until proven otherwise. Also, against Ul'dahns. He assumes them to be Brass Blade-like until proven otherwise.
Greatest strength: His ability to adapt quickly and effectively to any given situation.
Greatest weakness or flaw: His paranoia. It causes him to lose sight of the reality of situations, of what's important, and prevents him from developing healthy relationships.
Their favourite attribute: In others: earnestness. In himself: humour.
Least favourite attribute: In others: selfish arrogance. In himself: that he isn't truly Eorzean.
Biggest secret: That he is a mass-murderer.
Biggest fear: Pyrophobia. Phasmophobia - specifically, the fear that his father's ghost will haunt him. Ifrit is one big nasty trigger for both of these fears.
Most likeable trait: He tries really hard to be a good person.
Least likeable trait: He's obnoxious as hell. Also, an actual genuine mass-murderer.
How they portray themself in public: He aims for "likeable" and, as a secondary trait, "trustworthy". Because it helps his work. Which is about spying on people. As a roleplayer, I aim for him to come across as "affable but unpredictable".
Proudest accomplishment: Is also his biggest secret.
Other accomplishments: Plenty in service of Limsa Lominsa. He also faced Ifrit and survived, though this was mostly due to the help and support of the Scions who rescued him.
Biggest regret: Not performing his proudest accomplishment sooner.
Most embarrassing moment: Having a meltdown because someone wore an Ifrit mask.
Personality quirks: This dude manages to live with a lot of cognitive dissonance.
Would they like to change anything about themself: He'd like to not have Echo visions any more. They've never been useful to him and they've always caused him strife.
Short term or long term goals: Short term goals are always to resolve whatever investigation he's part of, and to make rent. His long term goal is to fully integrate himself into Eorzean society and hopefully live his days out as a naturalised Lominsan.
Obstacles: His short term goals are antagonistic to the people he's investigating, so that's always going to be an obstacle. His long term goal is obstructed by his complicated past and the difficulties all immigrants face in Eorzea.
Heroes or role models: Jacke. Merlwyb.
Negative role models: Pretty sure some of his player-character acquaintances could fit this bill...
Biggest life influence: Like it or not (he doesn't), his father.
Likes or dislikes: Likes meat, the colour red, the number twelve.
Favourite recreational media: Doesn't like books much right now because people keep recommending him stories and forgetting he can't read Eorzean. He wants a portable orchestrion or a music-linkshell (think like a radio station) to keep him company while he's rod-fishing, but he's still saving up.
