While I'm not about to reveal everything, there's probably nothing on here that isn't already on my wiki. :D
It would be less fun to just know stuff and not find them out ICly, so I trust other RPers to use what I write OOCly with discretion, and that rule applies to this as well.
THE BASICS:
Character name: Virara
Nickname: Wakuwa ("Pig," uncommon Othardian islander dialect.)
Origin of Nickname: Only known and used by her Master. Derogatory. It was in reference to her appetite and her race's generic figure. Pigs are also surprisingly clever, but her Master belittles her intelligence, so the indirect compliment is dubious.
Birthdate: UnknownÂ
Place of Birth: Unknown, possibly South Sea Islands or an island community in the Sea of Jade.
Ethnicity: Plainsfolk Lalafell
Religion: Faithless.Â
Height: 3'7" and growing. (Unusually tall)
Weight: 50 ponze (Unusually heavy)
Body type: Slim, toned, a bit lanky (For a Lalafell anyway.)
Eye color: Red
Glasses or Vision Enhancements: None
Skin tone: Healthy, a bit flushed. Was once tanned, but has since faded.Â
Face shape: Round, soft cheeks, small nose, sharp eyes.
Prominent features: Left eye is permanently dilated from an old injury. Due to constricted iris, one eye appears lighter than the other, and is permanently frozen in a glare.Â
Tattoos or distinguishing marks: Several whipping scars on the back, some cut and puncture wounds on the torso, crisscrossing scratches on the hands, forearms and elbows. Most fairly faint.
Casting choice: Akesaka Satomi (Voice)
General health: Abnormally robust physical fitness, strong bone structure, never seems to contract illnesses, sky high metabolism requires constant feeding, unusually warm body temperature.
Disabilities, illnesses, or weaknesses: Arthritic pains in hand joints from training, muscle sores. Severe "Allergy" ranging from nausea to seizures when outside aether attempts to manipulate her body's aetheric flow. (Such as in magical healing, or in teleportation.)Â
Fashion and style (what do they wear, how do they wear it?): Dark reddish brown goatskin eye patch, her iconic accessory. A threadbare leather coat, her dhalmelskin climbing jacket, a variety of loose shorts, black leather boots, a few loose, fraying shirts. Often wears just a cloth sash over the chest as an undershirt/undergarment. Virara owns nicer clothing gifted to her by others, but those were more to the proclivities of her friends, and she wouldn't be caught dead wearing a skirt by choice. Almost all her favored clothing tends to be unisex or masculine, either warm or easy to move in, and most importantly, cheap.
Special jewelry: A wooden magatama earring she may have carved herself, a pair of converted arrowhead earrings (To fit in), rose quartz peach-blossom earrings (Gifted, never wears them.)
Hair color: Faded maroon, dyed to resemble Doman black, but ends up looking purple.
Hairstyle: Loose, small pigtails tied high with ribbons. A bit messier and smaller than the game can portray.
Grooming: Careful brushing, takes care of her hair more than anything else in particular. Uninterested in cosmetics and doesn't have much need of them anyway. She's been considered cute before despite her behavior, and some other Lalafell seem to see her as statuesque, for one of their kind anyway. Despite this, she does little to maintain it.
Additional information: Zealously sticks to the same exact look without fail. Violently resists attempts to change her hairstyle from what Master gave her, and never allows others to see her without the eyepatch.Â
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Languages spoken: Doman (Fluent), Eorzean (Advanced)
Accent or dialect: In Doman, speaks in a rough, low class, masculine way, similar to her Master. In Eorzean, no accent to a conspicuous degree, extremely literal, some odd turns of phrase, but otherwise conversant.
Vocabulary/reading level: Doman (Literate), Eorzean (Mostly literate, though some vernacular confuses her.)
Voice tone: Very quiet, breathy, monotone. In Doman, much the same, though noticeably more rude.
Favorite phrases: "Master is Master," "This is difficult," "I see," "'First Language' (Use of force)," "Do not trouble me," "...," "Vulgar" (Virara's personalized term for all knowledge not learned from Master, not used in as derogatory a sense as the word implies, but carries an insinuation of less innate worth.)Â
Do they curse?: In Eorzean, never. In Doman, regularly, but it is imitative, with little emotion behind it.
Demeanor: Icy to the point of resembling a lifeless doll until she moves or speaks. When in combat, an intense, unsavory zeal surfaces from deep within, though it is muted and filtered through her flat affect. Outwardly uninterested in conversation, blunt to a fault and extremely literal. Sometimes almost childish in her curiosity, but hides it as well as she is able.
Mannerisms: Loosening and tightening her hands at the approach of others, glancing at the hands, feet, and chest of any new face in one motion.
Gestures: Nodding, scratching her chin in thought, pressing a hand over her heart, flexing her fingers and knuckles.
Habitual behaviors: Staring, even when it would be rude. She stares with such intensity that it's honestly pretty creepy, even for people she seems to get along with.
Posture: Straight, with a relaxed yet tense attitude that betrays her martial arts training to the initiated.Â
PROFESSIONAL INFO:
Current occupation: Sellsword (Unofficial). Previously vagrant, laborer.
Level of job satisfaction: None in particular. Work only interests her insomuch as it provides food, gear, and shelter. If it can enhance her training, so much the better.
Years at current occupation: A month at best.Â
Income: At Neverfar's Tavern discretion. Some side money from the few leves she can acquire and day labor jobs. Almost all of it used up by food and maintenance costs.
Professional skills: Many minor skills, but nothing to a professional level. At best she is an unskilled laborer with some background in gardening and fishing. No experience marketing herself or negotiating a contract. Frequent accidents and damage to tools/products make her ineligible for most work.Â
Combat skills: Martial artist (Extreme proficiency), rope dart (Improvised weapon), throwing objects at lethal velocity. Stealth and burglary proficiency. Focused stare occasionally can cause nervous torpor through unknown, possibly hypnotic means, but this is unconscious and accidental, very rare. Understanding of common and uncommon martial arts styles. Observational insight. Focused, meditative mind. Acquired immunity to common animal and alchemical toxins. Minor knowledge of torture methods. Not very skilled at military strategy or squad-large scale tactics.Â
Additional information: Virara cannot use magic. An attempt to teach her how to open a Chakra failed, though the potential is there given sufficient time. It is unknown whether her aetheric condition is physical or the result of a mental block.
LIVING CONDITIONS:
Place of residence: Neverfar's Tavern, Mist
Type of residence: Tavern, mercenary guild and aetherical research organization
Surrounding area (city, rural, etc): Mixed residential and commerical Lominsan neighborhood
Describe residence: A converted storeroom, stuffed behind the wall of the mercenary training area
Who do they live with: Mercenaries, tavern employees, other friends of the Company
Pets: (Top Secret) One centipede. Two tarantulas. One black scorpion. Two chigoe larvae. One small praying mantis. Virara does not name them nor will admit to having them or acknowledge them as pets. Wants to expand her collection to fighting beetles from overseas, but they are impossible to find...Â
Overall quality of living conditions: Spartan, but that's how she likes it. She owns very little aside from training equipment, books for cultural study, a few large sacks and a bedroll.
Home décor: Nothing, except for an out-of-place bonsai tree. Her living space is otherwise devoid of personal touches.Â
Important features of home: (Top Secret) Her collection is hidden in jars under her bed. Virara never admits to having hobbies, stressing that her training is the only thing that matters, yet despite this she finds herself unconsciously drawn to collecting bugs.Â
Type of vehicle: Tebasaki (Chicken Wing), a shedding, extremely ugly runt of a chocobo
Age of vehicle: 10
Defining characteristics of vehicle: Ornery, violent, always biting her and pecking her. Often throws her off and wanders aimlessly until she whistles for him again, upon which he may or may not return.Â
Quality of vehicle: Noisy, unreliable, uncomfortable ride, no special features, breaks down frequently, unsafe
Describe vehicle: He looks more like a crow than a Chocobo at times, such is his unattractive, inky coat and long coarse feathers. He may be a mutt of various Chocobo breeds, or some outlier. He can glide short distances in a manner similar to the aether-riding Ishgardian Black Chocobo, but he generally refuses to do this with Virara on his back. Though he hates her, he always comes eventually if she whistles-just at his own leisure. Tebasaki likes Curiel roots and biting people. He dislikes anything smaller than him and hates anything larger than him. His "hobbies" are bullying the weak and wandering aimlessly looking for females. (A quest doomed to failure given that they're generally monopolized by the Ishgardian stables, but he is stubborn.)
Additional information: Virara was scammed into buying Tebasaki by a few rogue poachers trying to get rid of their illegally acquired mount. Because he wanders and is very crafty, he's evaded capture so far, and it is hard to link him to Virara since he doesn't outwardly recognize her as his owner. As you can see, he is as much of an asshole as a bird can be, but that may be because Virara also considers him an emergency food source. That is the source of his name.
PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Marital status: Single
Significant partner(s): None
How did they meet partner: N/A
Nickname for partner: N/A
Previous romantic partners: None
Children: None
Relationship with children: Virara hates kids
Step-children: None
Important family: None that she is aware of
Mother: Unknown
Age: Unknown
Living or deceased: Unknown
Mother’s occupation: Unknown
Father: It's A Mystery
Age: Who knows?
Living or deceased: Un...
Father’s occupation: Known.
Siblings: You must be getting sick of Unknown by now. She's an orphan.
Describe the quality of relationship with any significant family members: Pretty quiet. As in non-existent. Because she doesn't know any family.Â
Extended family: Unknown is your friend, your closest family.Â
Friends: She is loath to admit having friends, but Chachanji Gegenji, Memeli Meli, Leanne Delphium
Best Friend: Chachanji GegenjiÂ
Describe relationship with friend(s): Virara takes uncharacteristic interest in their doings and will often unconsciously find herself sticking around with them or being defensive of them, even though she claims to lack any interest in knowing others.Â
Additional information:Â Virara tends to show a developing closeness with irregular interest in their behavior and way of life, which usually irritates or confounds her at first. Normally she is utterly indifferent to other people, so this is a promotion of sorts. Given time, Virara develops an intense loyalty not unlike a faithful hound, but she will never owe up to it. She attaches very quickly to older women as sister figures due to her emotional immaturity. She is highly insensitive, but is capable of some harsh, but useful, insight into others character that may prove useful for close acquaintances if they can endure her cold, vaguely hostile front.Â
How does the character relate to:
Spouse: She is ignorant of marital relationships, and so far seems to think a spouse is a wrestling sparring partner. In at least one sense this is correct.
Lover: She has never had one, but if she did, she'd probably only show affection through actions, not words.Â
Past lovers/spouses: None.
Children: Never had any, but she surely would be a harsh parent.
Friends: Virara finds their behavior confusing, their interests irrelevant, their emotions unpredictable and wasteful, and their learning and choice of study "vulgar." However, they're fascinating to her, consuming a great deal of her thoughts, and she can't give them up these 'distractions,' no matter how hard she denies herself.
Employer: Virara follows orders without question, and does not make excuses when she inevitably breaks something.
Underlings: She has no underlings. If she had them she would be an intense, ruthless instructor, but one who does not feel she is deserving of the title of teacher.Â
Minions: None. See above.
Pets: Virara believes that she keeps the bug collection simply to observe animal behaviors and insect-fighting, to gain insight into Master's mind. However, she feeds them generously, and often live prey. Virara does not name her pets nor does she humanize them in any particular way, yet she continues to keep them around for reasons she seems willfully ignorant of.Â
Strangers: A potential enemy until proven otherwise. She is always on her guard. However, Virara was instructed to show reverence to her elders of the same race in order to fit in.
Opposite sex: Virara did not even know there was a difference between boys and girls until about a year before she traveled to Eorzea...
Same sex: See above, except Virara is a bit more inclined to respect older female figures than men. Perhaps it's due to who raised her.
Family members: None known.
Competitors: She behaves coldly, but Virara is pretty hot-blooded inside, and will not take losing lightly no matter the circumstances, Losing to a rival is impetus for change and a learning experience, but also a point of shame.Â
Authority: The only authority Virara truly respects is her Master. All others she either listens to out of convenience or informal personal compatibility.
Enemies: "If a foe blocks your path, slay him, whether man, demon, or saint." So she was raised.Â
Additional information:Â
She regards all people over 25 as 'old' and refers to other Lalafell in that age range by something like "aunt," "uncle," "grandfather," "grandmother," etc. This can be, and has been, unintentionally insulting.Â
Until coming to Eorzea, Virara knew almost nothing of the concept of love, familial or otherwise.Â
CHARACTER PERSONALITY AND PSYCHOLOGY:
Any psychological issues or illnesses: Phantosmia (Phantom scent.), Lilapsophobia (Fear of typhoon weather.), Merinthophobia (Fear of being bound.) Stockholm Syndrome (Maybe?...)
Meyers Briggs Personality Type: Logistician (ISTJA), though a faintly impulsive and reluctantly emotional one.
What do they love: Nothing (In reality, most likely studying martial arts and Master.)
What is their passion: Studying martial arts, training to kill Master.
What do they hate: Master.
What would they die for: To overcome Master.
What do they value: Master's teachings
Secret loves: None.Â
Sexual behavior: Virgin. Not interested in/somewhat ignorant of sex.Â
Personal philosophies:Â
Master is the ultimate enemy and ultimate source of knowledge, the only being worthy of the zenith of personal respect. All other things in the world have worth, at times even being useful, but they are "vulgar" and beneath her supreme transcendence. She is the strongest, and is thus inherently right.Â
There is no sentience without the ability to actively choose to harm someone out of malice or for a contrivance of reasoning, as animals only do so out of a survival need; i.e. murder is an inherent part of personhood.Â
Emotions can't be ignored, but neither do they need to last. They're useful insomuch as they drive you to action, but nothing beyond that. They are "straw dogs" meant to be burnt as sacrificial fuel. They aren't meaningless because they're useless; they're meaningless because they are transient.Â
Those who lack the ability to defend themselves and make no effort to correct the problem deserve nothing.
Thinking about hypothetical situations is meaningless without strong evidence that it will occur soon. Dreaming about 'what if's' is a waste of time and focus. Likewise, flowery language that obfuscates your point is useless.
Politics: Indifferent. She doesn't even hate the Garleans, and only considers them an enemy because her Master fought against them during their conquest of Othard.
Spirituality: In Virara's words, "The gods don't know me, and I don't know them."Â She practices some Doman spiritual rituals unconsciously, but only out of imitation, not sincere piety. She has no particular reverence for the Twelve either.Â
Prejudices:Â Virara irrationally fears and hates bald people, specifically those who aren't old enough to be naturally balding yet either are missing or have shaved their hair. Other than that, Virara is incapable of racism as she doesn't particularly distinguish between different cultures on a level higher than "I understand this well," or, "They confuse me." That being said, her manner of thinking/speaking have led her to make remarks that are unintentionally culturally insensitive in the past.
Greatest strength: The ability to empty one's heart and accept everything surrounding her, either to learn or to be unaffected by turmoil or fugitive thoughts.Â
Greatest weakness or flaw: Inflexibility, the inability to change paths or connect with others.
Their favorite attribute: Self-control
Least favorite attribute: Self-pity
Biggest secret: Her strange disability that prevents her from manipulating her own aether.Â
Biggest fear: She refuses to consciously acknowledge it, but the idea that she might die long before she is ready to face Master again. Generally that something will interfere with her seeing Master again.
Most likable trait: Earnest
Least likable trait: Insensitive
How are they perceived by others: Severe, unemotional, rude, curious, reliable, honest, foreign, violent, ruthless, uncultured, thuggish.Â
Proudest accomplishment: When she was deemed worthy to go on a training journey by Master.
Other accomplishments: Killed a shark with her bare hands, helped defeat a spirit posing as a false primal, assisted in routing a conspiracy between mining families, fought with materia-enhanced tribeswomen, survived a long fall from an airship into the ocean, help slay a band of vicious pirates, helped thwart a terrorist bombing plot in Ul'dah.Â
Biggest regret: She will not recognize it. A smaller one Virara is vaguely aware of is indirectly pushing some close friends toward harsh training and violent situations in order to become closer to her.Â
Most embarrassing moment: The first time she was forced to wear a dress.
Personality quirks: Virara remembers the names of almost everyone she meets. However, almost as if she is trying deliberately to convince herself they don't matter, refuses to use them for anyone but those closest to her, preferring to use a lazy nickname like "Bottle Man," or "Animal Keeper." She will use their name if pressured enough, but only reluctantly.Â
Would they like to change anything about themselves: Though she is loathe to admit it, Virara would like to be able to better understand the thoughts and feelings of other people, even if she insists it is just to know her potential foes' weaknesses better.
Short term or long term goals: To slay her Master. All short term goals are steps towards this ultimate objective, no matter how small.
Obstacles: She is hounded by a mysterious stalker of dubious humanity, known as Tsuchigumo. This... thing seems to know her Master, but how?Â
Heroes or role models: Master
Negative role models: Master
Biggest life influence: Master
Likes or dislikes:
Favorite book, movie, music, etc: None. She has books that she remembers, but they are either informational books, war history and tactical manuals, or grisly "stories" that may or may not have simply been disguised anecdotes from her Master...
Additional information: There are a few people Virara looks up to for information and learning, but they aren't on the level of her Master as a role model. Chachanji Gegenji is probably the most notable of these, as she seems to on some level respect him despite their huge differences in philosophy.
PAST HISTORY:
Hometown: Lymlaen's Necklace, a tiny, unremarkable refugee shanty town on an atoll in the Sea of Jade. More accurately, she was there before the town was constructed from refugee ships that crashed or landed there on the way to Eorzea, so she actually might predate the name.
Past relationships: None
First love: None
First sexual experience: None
Major childhood events: Being stranded, her first encounter with other Spoken, her first successful mugging, being captured by Master, the day Master decided to recognize her as Spoken, the day she started training in the Martial Arts.
Best memory: Doesn't think in terms of "best" or "worst," but probably surviving her first week of training.
Worst memory: Being defeated and helpless at the hands of a particular foe, being bound and needing to be rescued from it.
Saddest memory: An associate (friend) appearing to have killed herself for senseless reasons Virara was incapable of comprehending.
Quality of childhood: Abysmal. There was scarcely anything that could considered even the most fleeting of happiness. However, as Virara doesn't know any other way of life, she considers it nothing special.Â
Educational experience/level: Tutored/self-taught.Â
Significant school experiences: No formal education.
Special skills or training: Amateur understanding of botany, entomology, and culinary arts.
Anything un-skilled, needs work: Accounting, rhetoric, creative arts.
Hobbies: Bonsai-growing (Insists it is a mental training exercise.), bug collecting (Insists it is to better understand Master and Doman culture to find her weakness.)
Major illnesses, accidents or traumas: Traumatized by a binding and maiming with mythril wire. Has never been sick, even with a common cold...Â
Police record/criminal record: Although Virara is guilty of, among other things, murder, manslaughter, assault, theft, vagrancy and tax evasion, in the eyes of the law she's only wanted for property damage in Limsa. Which, well, doesn't mean much. Being something of an unregistered civilian with no permanent residence and living in a city of pirates helps her continue to live free.
DAILY LIFE:
Morning routine: Stretches and run, horse stance, breakfast. Other times, day labor or travel.
Afternoon routine: Wooden dummy training, iron sand training, granite wheel training, lunch. Other times, day labor.
Evening routine: Forms training (secret) or going into the wilderness to fight wild animals at night. Other times, fishing or collecting bugs.
Sleep habits: Virara can sleep deeply anywhere, but typically is able to instantly wake up if she is disturbed. If she has trained hard though she will be out like a light and no amount of noise or even hitting will make her budge. She tries to get 7-8 hours of sleep a day if she can help it.
Additional information: Her routine includes time set aside for work frequently due to her poverty, but it's sporadic. Generally every day is training, from dawn to dusk. She occasionally will adopt a more loose schedule to allow her to spar or to travel to exotic locations to train. The Sea of Clouds is the most frequent one.
BACKSTORY:
A ship wrecked orphan, Virara grew up as a feral child and urchin in her home island's refugee community. Knowing little of society's ways, the girl eventually mugged the wrong woman - the sole practitioner of a diabolic martial art and veteran of Doma's last struggle before Garlemald vassalized them. Treated as a slave and non-sentient animal, Virara's intense will to murder her Master and free herself amused the woman, and from that day on raised Virara as Spoken, giving her her name and training her in the martial arts. Though Virara accepted the training as a way to slay her captor, after years of practice and time spent together, the thought became distant somehow. After helping foil an assassination attempt upon Master, for reasons Virara didn't understand herself, the woman deemed her ready to go on a journey of training and ordered Virara to travel to Eorzea to seek out Hamon Holyfist, whom she had met only once but knew of as a talented fistfighter in those days, and train under or defeat him. Virara did the former, being an occasional sparring partner during his rehabilitation, and left the guild without ever learning of his diminished skill, assuming he was humoring her.Â
