Do they have to be careful what they farm so not to upset the elementals? And what about Ul'dah? I haven't really explored it yet but are there farms? I mean they're in the middle of the desert. They can't just rely solely on trade, can they? There are cities in the desert in real life, I assume that in a world with magic they're able to do everything we can and better.  Also, ice cream bacon would just be bacon made out of ice cream, you want bacon ice cream...
