Welcome, Kang! I hope you were able to get some rest, at least. A friend of mine that got me into this was absolutely obsessed with the Shaolin vs. series, and we watched Shaolin vs Lama more times than I care to admit. Definitely an enjoyable genre.
As far as roleplaying, it is a lot to take in, but you are at a great resource for learning about it here. So, you're trying to create a character here and not transfer? As Balmung is the place to be and there is quite the population, that's gonna be tough. I have heard some success stories of people making a character in the early early to early morning, but I'm not sure how viable that is anymore. I know the one sure fire way is to do the character transfer, which allows you to bring your other characters as well should you want to.
