Dyne is an ex-Garlean officer and skilled tinkerer, who left Garlemald due to moral conflictions. After traveling the world for some time, he finally settled in Coerthas, where he took up residence and made a name for himself among the citizens and soldiers there. He was known as a good, honorable soldier who went out of his way to help and protect those in need. He became a member of a defense group based in the region called Silverwind Chevalier, where he quickly proved himself and rose through the ranks.Â
 They often worked alongside Ishgard and it's soldiers on many occasions. It was during this time that he met a skilled healer and mage by the name of Nyssara. Over time they grew very close, and one day during a trek through Dravania on a scouting mission..they encountered a Wyvern being attacked by voidsent. They rescued the Wyvern and slayed the oidsent, but during the battle, Nyssara had become wounded and the target of some curse from the twisted creature leading the void creatures. It wasnt long before she became gravely ill. Dyne did his best to treat her wounds and get her back to Ishgard. It was there that she was deemed 'void tainted' and needed to be purged. Dyne pleaded with them to spare her..that she could still be healed. They agreed to allow him and the healers to attempt to try for a short time.Â
 While Dyne was away a short time on an errand outside of the city..Nyssara was sentenced to death and yhe task of.her disposal was left to a powerful sect of ruthless and feared Templar Knights Dyne knew all too well. She was taken to a secluded place outside the city along the bridge where they proceeded to follow through with the order. It was at that time Dyne arrived to attempt one last time to sway them from their decision. They would not, and when they moved to kill her, Dyne stepped in to try stopping them. Even alone he made a great effort to save her, but even still he was unable to defeat them..and once he was defeated, he was spared, allowed to live solely in respect for his prior deeds and respect for him. Though they slaughtered Nyssara right in front of him with steel and fire. They then left her to die. Dyne has since never been able to forgive them for their hand in her end. As she died out in the cold, she was pulled into the void by an unknown entity, and her pain and anger had changed her..She became something twisted and evil. No longer the woman Dyne loved..

Some time later, during a great battle..as his group made their way to aid their allies, they were intercepted by a group of powerful voidsent and routed. The survivors were taken prisoner in the void, where they were enslaved. Dyne and his comrades, Including his good friend, Asch, were used as gladiators, battle fodder and breeding stock. It was then that Asch's son was born to the matron of the void dimension they were in. Dyne and Asch decided they needed to escape somehow. They needed the child to have a better life than this. They devised a plan to escape, during which they had retrieved the child and made their way out of the keep, along the bridge to the port crystal where they opened a portal home. At that time, the voidsent had caught up to them and in a last ditch effort to protect the others, Asch handed the young Luca to Dyne and asked him to watch over him..As he kicked Dyne through the portal and shattered the port crystal, sealing the portal behind them.Â
 Asch fought fiercely against the horde alone for a time, until he was eventually overwhelmed and recaptured and tortured until he was finally broken..and became the matron's general in her army. From that point forward, Dyne raised Luca as his own, and trained him all the boy's life, so that he could one day grow up with the power to help others. Dyne knows he cant run from his past, but he lives every day trying as best he can to make up for it.
