The fuzzy memory syndrome isn't a complete wipe of all memories. From the perspective of those who stayed behind, you remember everything you did with them and everything they've done for you. The only thing that's been erased is their identity. You remember that you spent your life with...someone. You just can't remember their name and you can't remember their face or what they looked like.
