I tried to make an Inara-type, but her training was poor, I guess, 'cause she ended up quitting her job to fall in love with a pirate. Ohho!
I never look for the romance. Even the above mentioned "companion" character, while I openly acknowledged the likelihood of feelytimes RP because of her concept, that was her day job, maintained offscreen mostly.
But if the romance happens, despite a character's quirks and negative personality traits, I love to follow and see where it goes. It's a great way to learn about a character. But for my part, I try to keep it slow and let the other person set the boundaries of acceptability.
