Barnabaix knocked on Rendafels' door before walking in, followed closely by the boy's twin sister who balanced a try carrying a bowl of water, bandages, and jars of salve. Â The butler pointed to the other side of the bed Rendafel laid in, the young master turning his head, smiling at his sister.
"Mae. Â What are you doing here? Â You should be at university." Â Rendafel frowned lightly at his sister, his words sounding different since missing a tooth.
"The young mistress refused to go today, and Master Rillemont thought it best to ease her fears for you by having her stay by your side for the time being."
Rendafel groaned, looking at his butler. Â "Fine. Â But I do not have to like it."
Mae swatted her brother very lightly on the arm as she began to change the bandage on her brother's right shoulder. Â She looked him over, and he seemed to be getting better. Â The right side of his face was still a dark black and green color, a gash along his cheek. Â She is happy all he lost was a tooth from that strike. Â The injury to his leg healed well, the arrow being deflected a good part by the buckles on his pants. Â She made fun of Rendafel's fashion choice, but it saved him that day.
The arrow that struck his shoulder was not so good though. Â The healers said he may not be able to move his arm again, but she would not give up. Â Her brother wanted to shoot a bow like Anne did, and she would make sure that he will.
"Young master, why do you not tell Miss Mae what happened? Â She has been asking me but I thought it best to come from her own brother's mouth."
Rendafel nodded, turning to his sister as the elder elezen took a seat by the fireplace. Â "It was glorious, Mae. Â I shouted for him in Ul'Dah, calling him out. Â I called him a coward, a weakling. Â Let him know that Master Hext had him next on his list to silence."
"It was not long before I saw him. Â He walked down the main street, looking around. Â I kept in the shadows, then carefully followed him with the men Master Hext gave me. Â Aryll tried to slip away in the marketplace but I would not let him, my men tailing him."
"Then we had him relax, as we 'disappeared' into the city. Â He called for assistance over his pearl as more of those Drifters showed up. Â I saw him pacing and looking around by the Weaver's Guild. Â And I took the opportunity I was given."
Rendafel smiled, flinching a moment afterwards. Â "I pointed to him, shouted his name. Â He turned to me and I saw the surprise and fear in his eyes as Master Hext's men let loose their arrows. Â Mae it was ... was ... I watched each one strike him. Â They went through his armor. Â Six arrows. Â He crumpled to the ground. Â I heard the shouts as his people surrounded him, but I knew Aryll could not live through that."
"The poison Master Wyght gave me is highly toxic. Â It would burn him up from the inside. Â I can just imagine his screams as he slowly dies and his friends cannot help him." Â Rendafel's eyes closed as he laughed.
"It was a fight afterwards. Â They came at us, and we fought back. Â I took grave injuries but the task was done. Â I struck a blow to Desmond Aryll just as Master Wyght struck down Kayle Delwyn!"
Mae smiled, laying a cool cloth on her brother's forehead. Â "You are a brave one, brother. Â Now rest. Â I have changed your bandages and you need your strength."
