I can already tell you're going to be a great addition to this community. Actually deciding what characters you want really shouldn't be that hard .I honestly would create all of them... as for picking your server you have two different servers you choose from regarding role play. Balmung and Gilgamesh.
As for choosing your free company, there are plenty to choose from. The one I created is a military Academy for orphans and citizens just like in Fin al Fantasy 8. Anyways, I hope I see you in game sometime.
